Pharmacy Technician Apprentice

Under the direct supervision of pharmacist, the pharmacy technician apprentice functions as a trainee and follows established policies and procedures. The pharmacy technician apprentice will gain knowledge in packaging, preparation, and distribution of medications, inventory control, customer service, and maintain pharmacy records.

You will successfully complete and receive
a diploma in Pharmacy Technology from the Cleveland Clinic School of Pharmacy Technology program within 12 months.
 

 

A caregiver in this position works Days, from 7:00am—3:30pm or 6:00am—2:30pm. 


A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations. 

  • Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies. 

  • Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. 

  • Document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities, and training in an accurate and timely manner. 

  • Communicate with other caregivers and patients in an effective and positive manner. 

  • Demonstrate emotional control and intelligence in managing work relationships.  

  • Attend and actively participate in team huddles and meetings.  

  • Share responsibility for accomplishment of the team’s tasks and goals. 

  • Appropriately use information systems, technology, and automation to complete assigned tasks. 

  • Maintain good standing in the Cleveland Clinic School of Pharmacy Technology program per the student handbook. 

  • Follow Hospital and department policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety. 

  • Complete mandatory education and training to maintain organization and department-specific competencies and requirements. 

 
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • High School Diploma or GED. 

  • Successful completion of the Cleveland Clinic School of Pharmacy Technology program within 12 months of hire. 

  • Upon hire, registration as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy. Registration as a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy is required within 12 months. 

  • Must obtain Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) within 12 months. 

  • Can perform algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds. 

  • Proficient in basic computer skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, walking, reaching, stretching and sitting for prolonged periods.

  • Manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing, and compounding.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
