About the role:
We have an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic team leading our approach to the provision of quality care to clients of the Finance Department.

The Revenue Accountant will help ensure the financial management and reporting requirements through the management of revenue accounting and related operations for the SVHN. The position works closely with the patient revenue team to ensure patient revenue is compliant with regulations and policies as well as accounting and reporting standards. In addition to revenue responsibilities, this role assists the Financial and Management Accounting Teams and has cross-functional opportunities with other departments on various business initiatives that have a financial statement impact.

About you:
We are seeking a skilled and energetic Position Title who possess a passion for person centred care.

  • Work with the Network Finance team to meet the organisational goals and objectives and ensure the ongoing provision of timely revenue information to all stakeholders.
  • Analyse and report on performance against revenue targets and identify actual and potential risk, issues and opportunities.
  • Assist in the management of the Network revenue budget to ensure the appropriate distribution of fun and effective reconciliation of all aspects of cash accounting for rights of private practice billing for senior medical officers and visiting medical officers under licences agreement in conjunction with the senior management.
  • Develop and maintain expert system knowledge of patient fee and sundry billing systems so the incumbent can interrogate each system at a forensic level for detailed financial information. This knowledge is used to prepare monthly journals, reconcile, report and develop financial integration across multiple platforms at the general ledger.
  • Prepare quality, timely and accurate revenue management information and advice to finance units/services of the Network to ensure compliance with statutory requirements and meet the organisation’s financial objectives.
  • Assist with both internal and external audits.
  • Identify and develop process/system improvements that increase the revenue team’s efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Provide revenue assumptions to inform budget preparation and reporting expectations.
  • Key contact point for revenue matters in ad hoc projects/revenue analyses/business cases.
  • Identify the need for developing, implementing, modifying and improving billing/revenue systems, and assist in the development, implementation and improvement of billing/revenue systems within the revenue/accounts receivable units as appropriate.
  • Maintain daily operational ownership of general fund and special purpose bank accounts including detailed reconciliation of the special purpose bank. Supervision of Finance Officer in carrying out Bank Reconciliation tasks in Oracle Cash Management, including:
    • Bank statement matching for the main public hospital entity and special purpose and trust account entity via Oracle cash management.
    • Organising bank reconciliation meeting between revenue, credit control and financial accounting team.
  • Liaise with hospital’s bank in regard to unidentified items on the bank statements.
  • Refund reconciliation for Private Practice Clearing account and general fund patient fees
  • Run weekly receipting report for all Private Practice sub-ledgers
  • Analyse the medical billing systems, so adjustments such as cancelled receipts, refunds, and reverse payments can be more accurately recorded.

Selection Criteria:
1. Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia.
2. A tertiary qualification in Accounting, Business or Commerce and/or meet the requirements to be a member of a recognized Australian professional accounting body.
3. Experience and skills using a recognised Financial Management Information System in a large organisation, such as the Oracle Fianacial Managements.
4. Demonstrated experience with process or system redesign related to accounting and ability to embrace change and drive quality improvement.
5. Ability to interpret the NSW Ministry of Health requirements with respect to accounting, revenue and billing policies
6. Extensive knowledge of the Australian Accounting Standards and a demonstrated record of the utilisation of these standards in the operational accounting environment.
7. A high level of effectiveness in a team-based environment and an ability to work autonomously. Demonstrated team leadership skills particularly in a changing environment including strong communication, negotiation and people management skills.
8. Well-developed written communication skills and ability to critically analyse information and prepare concise reports for management.
