JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Medical Manager provides scientific and medical support to the marketing and sales department
- Conducts medical training utilizing patient-centric approach for assigned therapeutic areas
- Takes on the role of the Affiliate Safety Representative ensuring compliance to Pharmacovigilance regulations

Key Areas of Accountability : Marketing and Sales Support
Marketing Material Development
- Provide scientific and ethical guidance to marketing managers in the early stages of marketing material development
- Review marketing materials to ensure that the materials are consistent with medical, scientific concepts and compliant to internal and external regulations
- Aligns with the marketing team in understanding competitor issues, therapeutic area strategies and communicating commercial messages to stakeholders
Medical Information
- Respond to internal and external medical inquiries that include: disease information, pharmacology of Abbott products, clinical studies, product information.
- Assess medical information for safety issues and create individual case safety report as necessary
Patient Support Programs
- Provide scientific and ethical guidance to marketing managers in conceptualizing programs that will enhance benefits to pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions to patient
- Review contents of patient-centric materials disseminated by Abbott and specific programs that aim to assist patients, family members and community cope with diseases
- Track and keep an inventory of patient support programs and market research programs to ensure compliance to ethical guidance and monitor for any pharmacovigilance issues
New Product Introductions
- Provide the Business Development Unit medical input in evaluating products for potential introduction into the local market
- Provide medical support to the marketing team during the early planning/strategies phase for new products, line extensions, and/or new indications
Continuing Medical Education
- Work with the CME personnel in planning for medical modules for use in CME activities like round table discussions, experts forum
- Work with the CME Personnel andTherapeutic/Brand Managers in deliberating with KOL and Advisory Board members regarding the contents of medical modules for specific products
- Review contents of medical modules, invitations to CME activities, CME AVPs to ensure compliance to internal and external regulations
Job Specification
Knowledge & Experience:
- Knowledge on disease diagnosis and rational treatment both pharmacological and non-pharmacological
- Clinical experience in managing patients: skills in doctor-patient communication, doctor-patient relationship
- Knowledge and experience in the pharmaceutical industry:
- Scientific and ethical standards governing pharmaceutical products
- Teaching skills on patient’s illness, patient journey and available treatment options
- Research: access relevant journal articles from indexed databases, interpretation of data and results of clinical studies
- Presentation skills synthesizing relevant medical concepts obtained from peer-reviewed references

Key Areas of Accountability: Medical Education & Training
Actively provide support to the training manager.
- Provide disease knowledge training, training in understanding patient journey from pre-diagnosis, diagnosis, and pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment options
- Provide training on basic pharmacology, clinical uses of Abbott products
- Create and update training materials on patients, disease and products
Competencies required:
- Skills on synthesizing and integrating medical concepts from different sources/references and create a teaching module for specific disease/products
- Knowledge and skills in communicating medical concepts to marketing and sales team with or without medical background

Key Areas of Accountability : Pharmacovigilance (PV)
- As the Affiliate Safety Representative (ASR), work in coordination with the Medical Manager (ASR Back-up), Quality Assurance Specialist, and Regulatory personnel in ensuring a working pharmacovigilance system. The affiliate pharmacovigilance system includes the following functions:
- Maintenance of updated PV organizational structure Acts as point person in receiving adverse event reports from all potential sources of individual case safety reports (ICSR) Conduct regular PV Training of all Abbott Laboratories- EPD employees, partners, service providers, contractors Maintain and update PV tracking systems: ICSR, PV agreement with third parties, Medical Information, PSUR submissions, PV local SOPs, Patient Support Programs, Marketing Research Programs Ownership of local PV SOPs: tracking, updating and training to relevant Abbott EPD employees Act as contact person on all PV matters for Abbott employees, EPD Global PV, Third Party partners, Regulatory authority
Minimum Qualification:
Preferably at least three years of pharmaceutical industry experience and at least one year of postgraduate clinical experience
