Senior Associate - Animal Enrichment & Clinical Care Technician
What you will do
Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will part of the progressive and dynamic Comparative Medicine team. Our team oversees managing all aspects of animal health care for a multi-species research colony, championing innovative and translationally relevant animal models to advance critical therapies to patients. We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Animal Enrichment and clinical care Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the highest standards of animal care and welfare, championing the “3 Rs” principles (Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement). This position requires collaboration with scientific and care management teams, mentoring colleagues, managing clinical cases, and contributing to the development and implementation of innovative techniques.
Champion the “3 Rs” principles to ensure flawless animal care and welfare.
Implement and manage comprehensive animal enrichment and behavioral programs.
Collaborate effectively with Amgen scientific and care management teams to establish methodical approaches for enrichment and behavior management.
Mentor colleagues and volunteers in animal wellbeing, enrichment, behavior, and humane handling techniques.
Triage clinical cases, provide clinical care, and maintain meticulous clinical records for a variety of species, including USDA regulated species, under the direction of the site veterinarian.
Communicate effectively with investigators regarding animal health and behavior.
Innovate by providing opportunities for technique refinement and developing new techniques for rodent and non-rodent species.
Contribute to the development, adherence, and revision of internal guidance documents related to animal care.
Ensure compliance by implementing laboratory animal care guidelines and regulations.
Actively participate in group, departmental, and Amgen teams to improve processes and contribute to organizational initiatives.
Produce detailed reports, posters, presentations, and other project communications, and contribute to scientific manuscripts.

2+ years with relevant BS or equivalent
4+ years with relevant AS or equivalent
6+ years with relevant HS
Open to learn new skills and adaptable
Excellent organization and communication skills
Ability to work independently
Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
AALAS certification at the ALAT level and/or other laboratory animal certifications
Previous clinical experience conducting animal research
Master’s degree in animal science or related field
Strong leadership, written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills
High proficiency with basic and advanced in vivo techniques for multiple animal species
Working knowledge of The Guide, USDA regulations, AAALAC and veterinary best practices

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
