As a day shift Medical Technologist, you will perform specialized testing to evaluate hemostasis and thrombosis, hemoglobinopathies and body fluids as well as work closely with Hematopathologists to provide patient care for many complex diseases. Your primary duties include:
Performing and interpreting tests at all complexity levels.
Correlating abnormal laboratory data with pathological states.
Determining the validity of test results and the need for additional tests through monitoring and/or verifying quality controls, standards, etc.
Communicating test results, reference ranges, specimen requirements and other pertinent information to authorized sources.
The ideal future caregiver is someone who:
Demonstrates an understanding of the theory and scientific principles of laboratory testing as well as the technical, procedural and problem-solving aspects.
Has a bachelor's or associate degree in medical laboratory science. If a bachelor's degree in chemistry or biological science has been obtained, then the ideal future caregiver will also have previous exposure to hematology principles and/or experience working in a clinical laboratory.
Has an understanding/knowledge of cell identification and coagulation.
Is self-motivated.
Works professionally in a team environment.
Medical Technologists are encouraged to set personal goals that align with the laboratory’s goals and work toward becoming a Lead Tech, Lab Coordinator, Quality Specialist or Supervisor.
