Job Summary:

The Finance Manager is responsible for accurate and timely statutory reporting for PP Japan, tax compliance and oversight of outsourced regulatory reporting. The role has the overall responsibility for the end-to-end month end close process including review and reporting.

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Partner with PayPal business leaders and wider PayPal finance organization on accounting and reporting matters
  • Drive accounting support within finance transformation work programs and other process enhancements
  • Provide accounting expertise and leadership to finance and business organizations
  • Consult with business partners regularly to ensure awareness of significant transactions and potential accounting impact

Expected Qualifications:

  • 8+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualification:

Month End: This role has overall responsibility for the timely completion and review of the end-to-end month and quarter end close processes including tasks such as:

  • Close monitoring of all entries into the GL regardless of where the entries are booked, including oversight of GL team entries such as cost-plus, intercompany charges and tax accruals
  • Prepare for review of the Regional Controller, accurate and timely monthly insight into P&L,  Balance sheet & Cash flow, including monthly variance analysis.
  • Review balance sheet reconciliations performed in shared service centre, investigate and drive open items to closure
  • Supervision of outsourced AP process and management of local business activities to support the process in compliance with approved policies and procedures with a focus on enhancing controls

Statutory Reporting and Audit: This role has overall responsibility for ensuring the Annual audit and statutory accounts are prepared and submitted within statutory timeframes including tasks such as:

  • Prepare annual statutory accounts within statutory deadlines
  • Preparation of quarterly Statutory Board reports
  • Understand new accounting standards and document any impacts to accounting treatment
  • Manage year-end audit process ensuring timely completion 

Tax: this role provides the local tax requirements for PP Japan

  • Prepare annual tax returns and JCT returns

Ad hoc responsibilities:

  • Partner with PayPal business leaders and wider PayPal finance organization on accounting and reporting matters
  • Support business in new product implementation from an accounting and control perspective
  • Review business processes to improve/strengthen internal controls and track remediation of control deficiencies
  • Support the local Finance team in a variety of ad hoc projects and tasks as required

Requirements:

  • Seasoned finance professional with over 8 years of experience, including statutory reporting and audit responsibilities, ideally with a Big 4 background.
  • Holds an accounting or business degree and relevant accounting qualifications for at least 5 years.
  • Bilingual in Japanese and English, with strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
  • Experienced in SAP, SAP BW, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong communicator with a collaborative mindset and a passion for ecommerce, capable of building trusted relationships with international finance stakeholders.
  • Proven track record in financial services, technology, or other fast-paced commercial environments.
  • Brings valuable experience from globally listed matrix organizations and regulated entities.
  • Deep expertise in Japanese accounting standards and US GAAP differences.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks independently and within teams, thriving in fast-paced, autonomous environments.
