Cape is looking for a Telco Product Manager. You’ll apply first principles thinking to reimagine perhaps the largest tech sector at the global level—telecom. Telecom was the original social media network, down to collecting and selling vast amounts of customer data.
You’ll need the project management skills to build premium Voice, Messaging and Wireless Data products and services, with a complex array of vendors and technologies, as well as the vision and insight to build new solutions that meet the needs of sophisticated customers and everyday consumers.
This role reports to the Head of Consumer and will be responsible for designing, implementing and managing our voice, messaging, and data products for wireless customers.
Build, launch and manage high-performing, high quality voice services on 4G, 5G, and WiFi networks.
Build, launch and manage high-performing, high quality Data services on 4G, 5G, and WiFi networks.
Build, launch and manage high-performing, high quality Messaging and Value added services such as voice mail and spam control on 4G, 5G, and WiFi networks.
Support the launch the first privacy and security-focused telco
Achieve industry-leading NPS
Solve hard, novel problems—like how to optimize voice and messaging products and mitigate fraud without tracking or identifying users
Hack growth with viral features and/or by integrating with key partners and channels
Establish tools, platforms, and processes that makes research and insight easy and fast in support of Agile development
Produce a unified product roadmap that covers both B2C and institutional customers, balancing priorities and identifying synergies as appropriate
At least 6 years prior wireless voice, messaging, and product management experience
Working knowledge and experience with the implementation of Internet Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), Voice over LTE (VoLTE), WiFi Calling, Voice Over New Radio (VoNR), Short Message Service Center(SMSC) Configurations, Features, and standards, Multimedia Message Center (MMSC) Configurations, Features, and standards.
Strategic thinking, particularly the ability to prioritize in a structured way, using principles and frameworks
Ninja-level project and stakeholder management
Strong written and verbal communication—this is the corollary of good stakeholder management; you have to be a great communicator
Intellectual curiosity and creativity—how can new technologies (AI, Web3, etc.) help us refashion telco service?
Prior experience in B2B and/or B2C research, both quantitative and qualitative
Experience and interest, either professional or personal, in privacy, cybersecurity, and/or telecom is a plus
Management skills and experience coaching others, including prior experience managing direct reports
Technical knowledge and proficiency is a plus
Strategic thinking: you are particularly sharp on distinguishing the critical from the important, and for applying the Pareto principle to focus on what’s most likely to move the needle.
Written & Oral Communication: you can write the model PRD as well as you can concisely express your position with a high-level audience
Wireless Product expertise: you apply first-principles, design thinking to arrive at novel approaches to old problems
Stakeholder management: you can manage and intermediate growth team expectations and engineering team constraints and requirements, and get everyone singing the same tune
Program management: telco is complex, with many moving parts and vendors, so everyone at Cape is a project manager. You will be able to wrestle shifting dependencies, unknown unknowns, and dynamic priorities into a timeline and project plan.
