SUMMARY
The Store Designer is an integral part of the Store Development team, working cross-functionally to develop store design layouts for both new and remodel stores including back of house and sales floor fixture layouts. They’re responsible for managing the design process and collaborating with external architecture firms and internal partners to produce plans in accordance with our brand prototype standards, design criteria and building codes. The Store Designer works with a Store Design Coordinator as a team to complete tenant improvement plan sets, overseeing all phases of the design process and managing their projects to a project timeline which includes overlapping projects at various stages of completion.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES
- Responsible for the space planning (back-of-house hardwall rooms and sales floor fixture layouts) for varying scope New, Remodel and rollout projects in accordance with our brand prototype, design criteria, building codes, merchandise capacity and scope guidelines. Responsible for preparing the plans for several layers of review, including a presentation to the Store Planning Manager, the Store Development VP and cross-functional leadership. Responsible for updating layouts to incorporate feedback up through Executive level approval.
- Responsible for overseeing the production of accurate and consistent plans produced by the Store Design Coordinator’s, verifying correctness and completion. Oversees the distribution of our interior tenant improvement plan set to field operations and contractors. Responsible for drawing interior elevations and collaborating with partners in Marketing on the placement of store specific interior graphics.
- Collaborates with external architecture firms to ensure coordination between our interior tenant improvement plan set and the construction documents produced by the architects. Responsible for reviewing several phases of the architect’s drawings including development plans, interior and exterior elevations, final CD sets and bulletins.
- Responsible for reviewing store survey information and presenting to cross-functional partners. Collaborates with management, partners, and architects to define project scopes based on site specific conditions. Communicates determined scopes internally and to architecture firms.
- Responsible for an assigned expert role including establishing and maintaining a relationship with a partner team, leading status meetings, reviewing existing documented processes and participating in team, cross functional or new hire training..
- Responsible for completing 1-2 site visits per project, including site verification, construction progress check and punch lists. Responsible for completing site visit reports and communicating to cross-functional partners to action from.
- Responsible for producing phasing plans for remodel projects including weekly phases of work for construction trades, fixture installation contractors and field operations.
- Responsible for advising and assisting in the resolution of construction administration and fixture installation issues with internal partners and contractors using project management software.
SKILLS / COMPETENCIES
- Proficient in AutoCAD or equivalent drawing program experience
- Thorough knowledge of all phases of design and implementation
- Ability to understand designs in 3D
- Basic knowledge of 3D modeling software (Sketch-up)
- Knowledge of retail operations and merchandise presentation practices
- Knowledge of store fixture practices
- Ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional partners, consultants, contractors
- Strong interpersonal skills with all levels of management and peers
- Time management and priority setting skills
- Ability to follow direction and criteria and make interpretations and decisions
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability and willingness to adapt to changing situations
- Ability to handle a variety of tasks on a variety of projects simultaneously
- Detail oriented for plan checking and verification
- MS Office programs (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, OneNote)
- Adobe Suite a plus (Photoshop, InDesign)
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
- Education Minimum: Bachelor's degree in the field of store planning, interior design or architecture. Fluency in AutoCAD.
- Experience Minimum: 3-5 years experience experience in Store Planning, Interior Design, or Architecture including design and drafting experience.
- Experience Preferred: 5 year's experience in areas stated above consisting of 2 years experience in store planning or construction. 2 years supervisory experience preferred.
