The Payments Domain in CBA brings together the process, people and technology assets supporting real-time, bulk electronic, cheques, high value and international payments processing for the Bank. The team have the monumental task of ensuring that 40% of the Australian economy are able to transact over $90 billion a day using the Bank’s services in a reliable manner. With the payments technology systems being at the heart of the Bank, almost every customer-facing channel relies on payments services in one way or another.
The Data Services Crew within the Payments Domain has stewardship over the Bank’s payments data to support development of new customer propositions and ensure compliance with regulatory obligations. The team are responsible to build and lead the world-class data delivery capability across critical payments data platforms and highly visible change initiatives. Cards Modernisation sits at the heart of this ecosystem, shaping the next generation of card‑payment capabilities, customer experiences and data platforms.
Do work that matters
As Chapter Lead and Product Owner within the Payments Data Services Crew, you will lead both a delivery squad and the Product Owner Chapter. You will drive strategic modernisation, data uplift and delivery excellence across Payments while building capability, strengthening product craft, and fostering a high‑performance, psychologically safe and inclusive culture.
You will guide Product Owners in delivering new and modernised data assets, shaping the future‑state data roadmap, and ensuring alignment with enterprise data standards. Leading a team of data delivery experts, you will champion end‑to‑end delivery, uplift ways of working, and work collaboratively within and across Crews to accelerate outcomes for customers and the Bank.
This role reports to the Crew Lead, Payments Data Services.
Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Lead the vision and delivery of Cards Modernisation for the Payments domain, improving customer value, efficiency and platform resilience.
Influencing cross‑domain decision making so dependencies, priorities and outcomes are clearly understood and co-ordinated and aligned to Payments modernisation objectives.
Align delivery with Payments priorities and Group architecture, data and compliance standards.
Act as the main liaison between the Cards Modernisation program and Payments teams, ensuring strong communication and coordination.
Drive end‑to‑end delivery with engineering, design and Product Owners to achieve scalable, high‑quality outcomes.
Shape the data roadmap and support platform modernisation to meet regulatory and architecture requirements.
Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders, providing transparency on progress, risks and dependencies.
Improve delivery practices to enhance speed, predictability and quality, leading key agile ceremonies.
Support and coach Product Owners to uplift strategic thinking, product mindset, prioritisation and customer‑focused decision making.
Embed consistent product processes, tooling and risk management across the team.
Foster an inclusive, collaborative and high‑performance culture across geographically distributed teams
We are looking for people who have:
Experience coaching Product Owners and lifting product capability across teams.
Background in cultural or capability uplift, with a strong focus on inclusion and psychological safety.
Ability to unite and align distributed teams across different locations.
Confident in constructively challenging processes and driving continuous improvement.
Strong systems knowledge, stakeholder management and leadership skills.
Proven ability to manage multiple complex initiatives and deliver at pace.
Excellent communication and influencing skills.
Customer‑obsessed mindset with the ability to translate needs into a clear roadmap.
Hands‑on experience with backlog management, sprint planning, release planning and dependency management.
Experience leading cross‑functional squads in an agile environment.
Solid understanding of operational risk frameworks and embedding effective controls.
Ability to work across tech, risk and business teams to balance speed with resilience.
