What You Will Do

The Senior Manufacturing Process Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring that Trimble's Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA) designs are efficiently assembled by our Electronic Manufacturing Service (EMS) providers. A primary focus of this position is on New Product Introduction (NPI) and driving design for manufacturability (DFM) specifically at the PCBA level. This position will be located at our contract manufacturer in Ayutthaya, Thailand, and will report directly to Trimble's Operations Manager on-site.

  • Perform written PCB and PCBA DFM analysis.

  • Participate in New Product weekly meetings, providing manufacturing expertise.

  • Provide on-site PCBA assembly process support to the Contract Electronics Manufacturing during prototype builds and as production issues arise.

  • Support printed circuit board fabrication and manufacturing panel design.

  • Provide timely responses to PCB supplier technical queries.

  • Participate actively in the PCBA design review process, offering critical feedback.

  • Participate in failure analysis on PCBAs to identify root causes.

  • Contribute to the resolution of PCBA component issues.

  • Perform Design of Experiments (DOE) to gather pertinent data and conduct thorough analysis.

  • Write clear and concise PCBA rework instructions.

  • Monitor PCB fabrication and assembly best practices, aligning Trimble’s technology needs with the capabilities of the supply base, and providing feedback to R&D and Supply Base Management.

  • Evaluate supplier process capability and drive corrective action initiatives when necessary.

  • Monitor Manufacturing PCBA yields and establish appropriate yield targets.

  • Participate in the root cause and corrective action (RCCA) process with suppliers and within Trimble.

  • You will have the opportunity to travel internationally to support various manufacturing sites or suppliers.

What Skills & Experience and Qualifications You Should Bring 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Electrical, Mechanical, or Materials Engineering or an equivalent relevant field.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an electronic manufacturing environment.

  • Minimum of 2 years of hands-on involvement with Surface Mount Technology (SMT) processes.

  • Should be able to converse easily in English as well as Thai in both written and verbal communication.

  • Demonstrated technical operations background in Printed Circuit Board design and fabrication processes. Working knowledge of CAD data package components and their relationship to the manufacturing process.

  • Hands-on experience with printed circuit board assembly processes, including SMT, stencil design, paste printing, component placement, reflow soldering, manual load processes, Wave solder, and secondary operations.

  • Experience with and knowledge of PCBA process test and measurement methods, such as printed solder paste inspection, placement Cpk, reflow profiling, automated optical inspection (AOI), X-RAY, Flying Probe, and In-Circuit Test (ICT).

  • Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills, effectively interacting with all levels of associates.

  • Ability to influence and lead others, and promote necessary process and design changes.

  • Ability to analyze production processes and systems, and identify potential concerns or areas for improvement.

  • Ability to quickly learn technical information and apply it to specific product problems.

  • Ability to provide technical and problem-solving guidance to colleagues and suppliers.

  • Familiarity with the European RoHS directive and the impact that compliance has on the PCBA process.

  • Working knowledge of Quality methods associated with Design of Experiments (DOE), gauge R&R, process capability studies, and statistical process control (SPC).

What Skills & Experience and Qualifications You Could Bring

  • Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Project Management scheduling software. AutoCAD experience is a plus

  • Demonstrated experience with creating comprehensive written PCBA DFM reports. Experience interpreting Valor DFM analysis is a significant plus.

  • Offshore PCBA support of Contract Electronic Manufacturers (CEMs) is strongly desired.

This position will be based onsite at our Contract Manufacturer location in Ayutthaya, Thailand. You should have the right to work permanently in Thailand without sponsorship.
