The Senior Engineering Manager serves as a leader to an agile product development team. You'll guide the strategic coordination and optimization of behaviour within the team and provide technical oversight and guidance while also managing the team members to ensure effective team functioning and product development. You'll also provide oversight of the product development processes and development team, giving feedback and developing leaders on those teams.
Responsibilities you'll be accountable for include people management, fulfilment of customer requirements, technical oversight, product development planning, process improvement, and stakeholder relationship management.
What You'll Do
Engineering and Innovation
Lead an engineering team to craft innovative software solutions
Collaborate with other leaders to define, plan, and execute roadmap objectives
Promote sustainable product development practices and agile principles while also ensuring appropriate attention to overall support burden, architectural direction, and tech debt
Plan and advocate for architecture priorities as a part of the roadmap
Provide context for business level objectives as well as product, engineering, and architectural decisions outside of the immediate team
Represent the engineering function for the Workiva ParsePort product line
Lead engineering management initiatives within your broader leadership team
Team Performance & Development
Assess and document individual employee performance
Meet with direct reports to discuss and coach in areas including, but not limited to career development, assigning product development work, and problem solving
Prioritize and invest time into career growth for direct reports; includes identifying and providing opportunities related to their goals, as appropriate
Lead workforce planning and the recruiting process for the team
Assess and manage team health, including employee engagement and conflict management
What You'll Need
Minimum Qualifications
8+ years of related career experience in Software Engineering in a technology organization
3+ years of people management experience in a technology organization
Undergraduate Degree or equivalent combination of knowledge and related career experience
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated leadership skills in people and team management
Demonstrated thought leader who is able to create objectives and goals in alignment with team vision
Experience working in an agile development environment
Experience with financial, regulatory or similarly complex reporting platforms a plus
Curiosity and a growth mindset, always seeking opportunities to expand your knowledge and skills
Experience with C#, .Net Core
Any experience in Azure, Kubernetes, Redis, RabbitMQ, Signal-R, or MySQL would be highly advantageous
Travel Requirements & Working Conditions
Reliable internet access for any period of time working remotely, not in a company office
20% travel for customer and internal meetings
