Assistant Manager, Employee Relations - Thomson Reuters Manila
About the role
In this opportunity as Assistant Manager, Employee Relations your functions include:
Serves as the primary point of contact and subject matter expert for all Employee Relations matters, ensuring that cases are managed effectively, fairly, and in full compliance with Philippine labour laws and regulations.
Partners with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on relevant labour and compliance matters, including but not limited to labour inspections, complaints, and regulatory requirements, working collaboratively with HR Advisors who will also participate in and support ER cases as required.
Provides expert guidance and interpretation of Philippine labour laws, including the Labor Code of the Philippines, DOLE regulations, and other relevant legislation, ensuring that the business remains compliant and up to date with any changes in the regulatory landscape.
Advises the People Team on higher complexity Employee Relations activity, coaching and guiding managers through ER processes and procedures to ensure fair, consistent, and legally sound decision-making.
Will have in-depth knowledge of the Manila business unit, including its customers, products, business pressures, people dynamics, and the local regulatory and political landscape, enabling the delivery of tailored and commercially aware HR advisory support.
Will have considerable judgment to develop pragmatic and commercially sound solutions from a factual background and fundamental principles, with a strong understanding of local labor laws, employment practices, and industry standards.
Act as a trusted advisor and building strong relationships across all levels of the organization.
Proactively identifies trends and patterns in Employee Relations cases and provides insights and recommendations to senior HR leadership and business stakeholders to address root causes and drive continuous improvement in the employee experience.
Contributes to HR projects as a team member with ownership of certain elements, bringing an ER and compliance lens to project deliverables and ensuring alignment with local regulatory requirements.
Collaborates with the Legal function within the organization (General Counsel for Employee matters for APAC and EMEA) and external counsel partner in Philippines where necessary on complex or high-risk ER matters, ensuring that the business is appropriately protected and that cases are managed in line with legal advice.
The incumbent will be an individual contributor but will be responsible for directing, mentoring, and coaching and partnering with HR colleagues within the areas of Employee Relations and Philippine labour law.
Stays current with developments in Philippine employment law, understand TR Employee relations practice to ensure global consistency , DOLE issuances, and HR best practices, proactively sharing knowledge and updates with the wider HR community to ensure organizational awareness and readiness.
About You
You're a fit for the role of Assistant Manager, Employee Relations if your background includes:
5–8 years of progressive HR experience with a strong focus on Employee Relations, HR advisory, and/or employment law compliance in the Philippines.
Deep knowledge of Philippine labour law, including the Labor Code of the Philippines, DOLE regulations, and relevant local employment legislation, with the ability to interpret and apply these in a commercial context.
Proven experience managing ER cases of varying complexity, including investigations, grievances, disciplinary matters, performance management, and organizational change.
Demonstrated experience engaging and partnering with DOLE on labour inspections, complaints, and regulatory compliance matters.
Experience advising and coaching managers through ER processes and procedures, ensuring fair, consistent, and legally sound decision-making.
Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to build trusted relationships across all levels of the organization in a multinational, matrixed environment.
Experience collaborating with Legal functions and external counsel on complex or high-risk ER matters.
Ability to identify trends and patterns in ER cases and translate insights into actionable recommendations for senior leadership.
Experience contributing to HR projects with ownership of specific deliverables, particularly those with an ER or compliance dimension.
Strong case management, documentation, and reporting skills, with a continuous improvement mindset.
Experience mentoring and coaching HR colleagues on ER matters and Philippine labour law.
Bachelor's degree required; relevant HR or employment law certification (e.g., CHRP, labor law-related credentials) is preferred.
Experience using HR technology, case management tools, or workflow improvements is an advantage.
