Job Description:

Custodian

Job Disclosures:

Location: (On-site) Santa Fe

Compensation: The hourly rate for this position starts at $18.00/hr. Compensation may vary based on location and experience.  


Job Summary:

Custodians maintain the interior and exterior spaces of Meow Wolf buildings. The Custodian supports the facilities team in building upgrades, repairs, landscaping, and cleaning of all the surrounding buildings to ensure a safe and clean work environment. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Performs routine maintenance on the building's interior and exterior.

  • Maintains a schedule of when maintenance has been performed and when the next service is due.

  • Works in a safe manner and recognizes unsafe situations. Takes appropriate action to ensure the safety of themselves and others in the buildings.

  • Operate vacuums and carpet cleaning equipment.

  • Clean and sanitize restrooms and public spaces.

  • Operate pressure washers and carpet extractors. 

  • Use a variety of cleaning products, including bleach and mild chemicals.

  • Maintain outdoor areas. 

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications: 

  • 19 years of age or older

  • Authorized to work in the United States

  • Ability to follow instructions and pay attention to detail.

  • Ability to follow and enforce safety rules.

  • Prior work experience in a physically demanding field.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed must be representative of the knowledge, skills, minimum education, training, licensure, experience, and/or ability required. 

Work Environment:

This role works both indoors and outdoors, depending on the location and season. Custodians are frequently exposed to dust, dirt, cleaning chemicals, and strong odors, and may regularly work around wet floors, spills, and other slip or trip hazards. The position often requires working in high-traffic public areas and around coworkers or guests, with possible exposure to noise, heat, cold, and varying lighting conditions. Shifts may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events based on operational needs.

Physical Demands:

This position requires frequent standing and walking for extended periods of time, along with regular bending, kneeling, squatting, reaching, twisting, and climbing. The role also involves the ability to lift, push, pull, and carry cleaning supplies and equipment, and may include moving items such as trash bags, furniture, and boxes. Custodians perform repetitive motions such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and wiping surfaces, and must be able to safely operate custodial equipment such as vacuums, floor buffers, and cleaning carts. The role may also require working on ladders or step stools as needed to complete cleaning tasks.

The employee will comply with company and OSHA standard workplace safety protocols. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 

Work Schedule

This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
