Summary of Job Duties:
The Professional Scholars will assist the Arkansas Center for Health Improvement’s research and analytic efforts and serve as investigators or key personnel on grants that support the organization’s mission, vision, and values through transformation of health data into information.
In collaboration with the senior ACHI leadership team, external project sponsors, and other ACHI staff, the Professional Scholars will develop, implement, and guide advanced health services research and analytics using local, state, and national data resources with appropriate research design, statistical methods, and professional dissemination of results.
Along with other academic collaborators, the Professional Scholars may represent the organization with presentations at state and national venues. The position reports to the President and CEO of ACHI and the Executive Director of ACHI.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s Degree plus 5 years’ experience in developing complex health policy-related analyses and /or reports.
OR
PhD plus 3 years’ experience in developing complex health policy-related analyses and /or reports.
- Advanced problem-solving skills
- Methodological expertise in research design and statistical applications
- Demonstrated skills in SAS statistical programming including descriptive analysis and modeling
- SQL programming capabilities
- Large database extraction and manipulation
- Healthcare claims experience including in depth knowledge of ICD-9/ICD-10 Procedures and Diagnoses codes, CPT, HCPCS, DRG/MS-DRG, NDC, Type of Service, Place of Service and other codes commonly utilized in health care data sets
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
- Work well independently and in a team environment in support of project deliverables
- Communicate well verbally with internal and external collaborators and stakeholders,
- Think critically and strategically,
- Manage and prioritize multiple tasks/projects,
- Strong writing ability:
- Ability to write at different levels of technical content (e.g., legislative briefings to peer-reviewed manuscripts)
- Ability to work with collaborative team for generation, editing, reviewing, and completion of documents/work products.
- Use of Google Docs and Microsoft Office products such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access
Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD or equivalent ten (10) years’ experience in health sciences research or similar area advanced problem-solving skills.
- 5 years’ experience in management and leading analytic projects with a supervisory role
- Certificates in SAS, data science, or equivalent continuing education
- Evidence of peer-reviewed publications
- Evidence of competitive extramural funding
- Experience in R statistical and /or Python – programming languages.
- Knowledge of and experience with analytic programming software and experience interpreting analytic output
- Knowledge of and experience with data visualization software such as Tableau or Power BI
- Knowledge of ArcGIS or other geographical coding programs to assist in health geocoding/mapping
