University Annual Giving in the Office of Engagement is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated work study student employee to join our Direct Marketing team. This role is ideal for someone with strong and practical SQL and Excel skills, and an interest in supporting initiatives that enhance donor engagement and campaign performance. We offer a congenial, remote-first learning environment and welcome the opportunity to employ talented University of Virginia students who want to learn more about data-driven marketing strategies within the fundraising and higher education sectors.

Perform specialized office support functions or services that require some training, skill, or experience.  Duties include providing customer service and specific information, data entry and use of standard office software programs & systems, work within established guidelines and policies.  Limited supervision is provided; ability to perform a wide range of duties.

Key Responsibilities

• Update views weekly using SQL for appeal code tracking and analysis
• Build and maintain audience segmentation queries in Snowflake for direct mail, email, social media, and text campaigns
• Assist in data validation for campaigns, including verifying donor records within Salesforce Ascend
• Investigate and troubleshoot data issues by analyzing query logic and applying problem-solving skills
• Document query logic and maintain clear workflows for repeatable processes

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a degree in Data Science, Business Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field
• Solid understanding of relational database concepts and ability to write SQL queries involving joins, CTEs, and conditional filtering
• Comfortable troubleshooting query results and explaining logic clearly
• Ability to format and organize large datasets in Excel for AB testing and campaign requests while maintaining data integrity
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks independently

Eligibility

Applicants must be a current UVA undergraduate or graduate student eligible for student employment and work study. This posting is for the spring 2026 semester.

Rate of pay

$19/hour for up to 20 hours a week; a minimum of 10 hours a week.
