What You Will Do:

We are currently searching for Patient Recruitment and Communications Officer to support the Division of Intramural Research (DIR) as a principal advisor to the intramural research teams on patient engagement, recruitment, and communications with the goal of recruiting participants to clinical research protocols.  This is a full-time, on-site opportunity in Bethesda, MD.  

  • Patient Recruitment Planning: Develop, execute, and analyze strategic recruitment plans for a wide variety of clinical research protocols in the fields of cardiology, hematology, pulmonary and vascular research.
  • Outreach & Marketing: Develop and implement strategic outreach plans, including digital/print marketing, community events, and presentations. Manage social media strategies and track performance metrics. Manage the patient recruitment budget for the NHLBI DIR.
  • Data Management: Maintain databases to track and project accrual data and prepare reports on patient referrals, protocol recruitment metrics, and program effectiveness. Plan budget and resource allocations for advertising and other outreach activities.
  • Collaboration: Work with multidisciplinary clinical research teams to improve patient recruitment processes and resolve issues related to patient recruitment. Work closely with other personnel within the NHLBI Office of the Clinical Director to ensure alignment of recruitment activities with broader strategic goals.
  • Communication: Serve as a liaison between researchers, clinical staff, and patients, providing information on clinical trials and research participation.
  • Keep current on federal operational policies and procedures; build new and update current Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to reflect process changes.
  • Able to adapt quickly and provide support to team members; takes initiative in identifying solutions to keep projects moving forward.


What You Will Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least FOUR (4) years of experience in project management or communications in a scientific/research or clinical setting OR equivalent graduate-level education experience.

  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Scientific/research communications experience is preferred.

The annual salary range for this position is $87,100.00-$130,700.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
