The Flutter Functions division is a key component of Flutter Entertainment, responsible for providing essential support and services across the organization. The division encompasses various corporate functions, including finance, legal, human resources, technology, and more, ensuring seamless operations and strategic alignment throughout the company.

Role Overview:

Flutter Functions and Betfair Romania are an incredibly exciting part of Flutter to work in. Across our Hub locations in Cluj, Hyderabad, Porto and Sofia, we have recently surpassed 4900 employees and continue to have strong growth plans. 

This is a new, senior leadership role within the Group Legal Team, with a dual focus on: 

1.       Providing expert legal advice and strategic guidance to Betfair Romania (Cluj), and 

2.       Leading and aligning the legal teams across all four Hub locations. 

The scope of this role is broad, covering commercial and employment law as key pillars, but also corporate governance, compliance, data protection, IP, tax, litigation, and regulatory matters. This person will play a strategic role in shaping Flutter-wide legal frameworks, supporting group-level initiatives, and ensuring the Hubs operate with robust yet agile legal practices that enable business growth. 

The Hub Leadership Teams and Group Legal Leadership will be key stakeholders for this role. The ability to influence, challenge, and gain trust at a senior level across multiple geographies and functions is essential. 

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

Hubs Legal Leadership

• Lead and manage the Lead Counsels across the four Hub locations (Cluj, Porto, Hyderabad, Sofia), ensuring alignment of legal strategies with organisational priorities. 

• Mentor, coach, and develop the legal teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning. 

• Identify opportunities for synergies and shared learnings across Hub locations and drive process optimisation and automation to enhance efficiency. 

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with Hub Leadership Teams, acting as a trusted legal advisor on a range of strategic and operational matters. 

• Provide input into Flutter-wide legal frameworks, policies, and governance standards, ensuring Hub-specific needs are represented while maintaining global consistency. 

• Participate in or represent Hub Legal in group-level steering committees or cross-functional initiatives, influencing decisions that impact Hubs. 

Betfair Romania Legal Advisor (Cluj) 

• Provide pragmatic, commercial, and strategic legal advice to the Cluj Leadership Team. 

• Lead on all employment law matters and support people-related policies. 

• Draft, review, and negotiate key commercial contracts and advise on related risks and opportunities. 

• Oversee all other legal matters in Betfair Romania, including litigation, data protection, IP, compliance, and corporate governance. 

• Anticipate and communicate the impact of new legislation and regulatory developments, summarising implications for the business and providing clear guidance. 

• Manage external legal counsel to ensure cost-effective and high-quality legal support. 

Skills, Capabilities & Experience Required:

• Qualified lawyer with 10+ years post-qualification experience, and a desire to understand Flutter's business and be part of the team. You should have strong experience, preferably with an international element in a technology driven sector, in areas such as commercial contracts, employment law and litigation.
• Proven expertise in commercial contracts, labour law, employment law and ideally, litigation and corporate governance.
• Demonstrated experience leading legal teams across multiple locations or within a matrixed organisation, with a strong ability to inspire and guide diverse, multicultural teams.
• A demonstrable track record of successfully advising sizable businesses on a diverse range of complex legal matters in a highly dynamic and fast-paced organisation.
• Proven confidence and maturity to effectively deal with complex and challenging situations.
• We typically look for people with experience at multinational organisations or highly regarded law firms with experience as an in-house lawyer, either on a client secondment or permanent role. We value our people and culture highly, so a suitable candidate must be an outstanding communicator and be great with people.
• The candidate will also need to show an ability to translate complex legal regulatory requirements and articulate pros and cons of solutions without losing commercial focus and be capable of challenging senior business stakeholders.
• Extensive experience of internal and external stakeholder management.
• Experience of leading a team, preferably in a global context.
• Skilled at balancing legal risk and commercial priorities, with the ability to translate legal complexities into clear, actionable guidance.
• Cross-cultural competence and experience working across multiple jurisdictions and time zones.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence without authority and build trusted relationships across the business.
• Experience in driving change, including setting up or scaling legal functions, implementing new processes, or adopting legal tech solutions.
• Fluent in English (written and spoken); additional language skills are a plus.
• Self-starter with the confidence to work autonomously, while balancing a broad and varied workload.
