Colorado School of Mines invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Fellow position.

This position will lead work on an industry-funded project for integrating multiple ambient seismic methods into a Bayesian inversion framework for estimating Earth velocity models. Candidates should have strong programming skills in Python, know how to use open-source packages, and have strong expertise in inversion, preferably in transdimensional Bayesian (TDB) approach.

The successful candidate will be offered a nine-month full-time Post-Doctoral Fellow position. The ideal start date will be January 5, 2026.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Lead research activities pertaining to TDB in collaboration with faculty advisor

  • Integrate ambient seismic analyses into a joint TDB inversion framework

  • Collaborate with project team to generate deliverables and other reporting requirements

  • Contribute to the generation of project-related research papers

  • Participate in group meetings

  • Other duties as required

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in Geophysics or Applied Mathematics

  • Experience in applied seismology theory and practice for resource exploration related activities.

  • Experience with geophysical inversion, preferably Bayesian approaches (e.g. TDB)

  • Proficiency in Python programming, GitHub, and using open-source Python packages

Annual Rate 

$65,000 annualized salary

Mines takes into consideration a combination of candidate’s education, training and experience as well as the position’s scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required in the role, work location, and external market and internal value when determining a salary level for potential new employees.
