About This Opportunity 

This is an exciting opportunity for a Teaching Focussed Senior Lecturer within Medicine to expand their teaching impact through leadership at the program, discipline, or similar level. The successful candidate will coordinate or lead the activities of other staff aligned with UQ values. They will maintain an active role in internal and external collaborations that enable the development of others with evidence of increasing influence on teaching practices, policies, and/or knowledge.

The Specialty Supervisor will deliver high-quality clinical education relevant to the discipline within the Clinical Unit.  The Specialty Supervisor will work with the Principal Specialty Supervisor to support the integration of learning across all four years of the program as well as engage specialty-specific hospital and community care health care clinicians.  The Specialty Supervisor will be highly visible in the hospital or community care environment and have a proven academic track record within their specialty.

Key responsibilities will include: 

• Teaching: Be an effective and professional role model and contribute to a positive student experience.

• Contribute to student teaching, supervision, assessment and the provision of effective feedback to students across all years of the program to support the development of clinical knowledge and skills as well as students’ professional identity.

• Support Academic Title Holders and other clinical colleagues to provide effective clinical supervision, teaching and assessment.  

• Research: Maintain an active record of producing quality clinical research outputs consistent with specialty norms as a leading contributor.

• Participate in applications for research funding including the scholarship of teaching and learning and/or clinical research. 

• Supervision and Researcher Development: Lead and develop employee performance and conduct by providing effective feedback, coaching, and professional development, where applicable.

• Citizenship and Service: Consistently demonstrate behaviours that align to the UQ values.

Contribute to a respectful, inclusive and culturally safe workplace and learning environment.

The successful candidate may negotiate their hours from an 0.2 FTE to a 0.4 FTE.

The preferred Academic Category for this position is Teaching Focused. Appointment under the Academic Category of Clinical Academic may be considered in discussion with the preferred candidate.

About You 

• Medical qualification and eligibility for registration as a medical practitioner in Australia.

• PhD or equivalent in the disciplinary area, or an appropriate combination of professional and academic service relevant to the field.

• An established profile in clinical teaching and/or clinical research in the discipline area.

• Current employment as a clinician at Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital

• Evidence of a substantial senior contribution to quality clinical teaching at undergraduate postgraduate and/or professional entry level.

• Expert discipline knowledge and extensive experience in a general or specialist capacity, including evidence of dissemination and adoption of new and innovative clinical techniques.

• National record of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences with a developing international profile, in conjunction with evidence of contributing to successfully seeking, obtaining and managing external research funding.

• Active participation in the development and continuous innovation of programs, curricula and/or course material in the discipline area.

• Record of supervision of HDR students and/or trainees in speciality training programs.

• A growing record of meaningful internal service roles in conjunction with demonstrated leadership roles in external activities that foster links within the profession and the relevant specialty, including developing consultancies in speciality areas.

A Conjoint/Secondment arrangement with Queensland Health may be considered for a suitable applicant.

In this role, you will be responsible for teaching and supervising medical students within the hospital. Applicants must hold a clinical position at Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital to be considered for this opportunity.

The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including right to work in Australia, education check, AHPRA registration, mandatory immunisations.
