What You Will Do:

  • Directly interacts with parent to ensure that a birth certificate is created for each live birth and interacts with parent to ensure that a fetal death certificate is created for each death.

  • Independently reviews and analyzes physician documentation to abstract and submit birth data.

  • Reviews and verifies labor and delivery documentation for accuracy, completes, notarizes, and submits paternity affidavits.

  • Communicates confidential information regarding birth registration to parent, provides educational materials, and responds to requests from birth parent.

  • Collaborates with physicians and nursing staff to ensure timely workflow.

  • Works with leadership to identify and solve problems, decrease any workflow restrictions, implement process improvements, and ensure timeliness of data submission.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Location:  UAB Main, 100% Onsite

Position Type: Full Time, Days

Schedule: 8:00am-5:00pm


What You Will Need:

  • HS Diploma/GED or at least 3 years of relevant equivalent work experience.

  • 1-3 years of relevant work experience

  • State of Alabama Notary Public required.

What Would Be Nice to Have:

  • RHIT preferred

  • Healthcare experience

  • Strong medical terminology experience

  • Time management skills

  • Written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to problem solve.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Process improvement skills

  • Detailed oriented while managing files, mandatory paperwork, and supporting documentation.
