The Real Estate Risk Manager provides full leadership and supervisory responsibility. Provides operational/service leadership and direction to team(s). Applies in-depth disciplinary knowledge through provision of value-added perspectives or advisory services. May contribute to the development of new techniques, models and plans within area of expertise. Strong communication and diplomacy skills are required. Generally has responsibility for volume, quality, timeliness of end results and shared responsibility for planning and budgets. Work affects an entire area, which eventually affects the overall performance and effectiveness of the sub-function/job family. Full supervisory responsibility, ensuring motivation and development of team through professional leadership to include duties such as performance evaluation, compensation, hiring, disciplinary and terminations as well as direction of daily tasks and responsibilities. Overseeing risks taken in connection with real estate activities which includes extensions of credit that are secured by liens on or interests in real estate, direct and indirect private equity and public market real estate investments, capital markets, construction lending, servicing, any consumer or commercial loan undertaken when real estate security or real estate activity, or an asset sale, or a refinancing is contemplated as a first way out.
Responsibilities: - This position requires a keen interest in both real estate and capital markets as well as affordable housing and community development.
- Analyze and identify risks on new transactions, convey decisions on loan approval (or bond purchase), structure and risk rating
- Prepare annual and periodic risk reviews and assist in the documentation and closing of clients’ financing agreements
- Monitor and review exposures related to a portfolio of structured loans and debt securities while ensuring compliance with credit and equity policies
- Participate in customer calls, attend bank/customer/site meetings and assist in the development and implementation of appropriate client account strategies.
- Assist in the remedial management of obligatory/relationships with emphasis on optimizing the recovery and proper documentation (reviewing legal docs, preparing classified credit reports, participating in classified reviews, etc.)
- Assist in the preparation of Prepare portfolio reviews, product programs, portfolio stress tests and other risk reporting tasks
- Participate in the Fundamental Credit and Risk Review process and other audits.
- Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.
Qualifications: - 5-8 years previous risk experience preferred
- Excellent communication and diplomacy skills.
- Computer, analytic and quantitative skills with ability to perform credit analysis.
- Writing, presentation and interpersonal skills. Excellent attention to detail. Willingness to learn new products and programs
- Degree in Accounting or Finance, a plus
Education: - Bachelor’s/University degree or equivalent experience
