PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Provides leadership to development and design of new and derived products. Exercises initiative, inventiveness, problem solving methodologies, and independent judgment in achieving department and business objectives.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conceives and develops designs for new or derived products.
    • Project planning and project management. Ability to manage multiple tasks, assignments, and projects simultaneously.
    • Develop product concepts, specifications, timelines, and development plans.
    • Prepares and presents project and technical design reviews, both internally to Banjo and to Customers.
    • Develops test plan for product development and design validation. Oversees/performs lab testing and documents summary of testing results.
    • Coordinate implementation of new design through all manufacturing processes.
    • Prepares catalogue specification and technical publications.
    • Works with Supply Chain group to evaluate and select vendor supplied parts.
    • Works with Sales, Marketing, and our customers to ensure the product solution meets the Customer’s expectations and requirements.
    • Work with Process Engineering team to drive continuous improvement and product manufacturability of new designs.
    • Work with Quality Engineering to resolve customer quality issues.
  • Investigates, prepares, and implements engineering change notices.
  • Identifies opportunities for cost improvements.
  • Review technical development and call attention to significant new design concepts, new products and materials which may be applicable to Banjo products.
  • Provide technical consultation with factory and field company personnel, customers, and distributors.
  • Make patent disclosures and assist company in patent applications.
  • Willing and able to undertake domestic and international travel in support of business needs.
  • Assist in other special assignments as required by the Design Engineering Manager.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • BSME/MET degree from an accredited college or university required.
  • Comprehensive drafting knowledge, including 3D model creation, 2D drawing creation, dimensioning and tolerancing required.
  • Five years of experience in product design, or related engineering experience required.
  • Knowledge of various manufacturing processes, including machining, assembly, casting, injection molding highly desired
  • Experience with DFMEA’s, PFMEA’s (Failure Mode Effect Analysis) desired
  • Experience with GD&T(Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) desired
  • Experience with plastic injection molded components required
  • Experience with RCCM (Root Cause Counter Measure)

OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Personal characteristics should include technical ability and drive for results.
  • Good judgment, technical insight into problems, and effectiveness in completing job assignments required.
  • Effective communication skills (written, verbal, presentation and interpersonal).
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment and solo assignments.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Proficient with Autodesk Inventor 3D modeling and 2D prints.
