Planning Clerk

Job Summary: The position exists to manage production planning in order to ensure that all customer orders are met on time and according to specification. To do this effectively he/she will have to liaise closely with production schedulers, machine operators, maintenance personnel, quality controllers, raw material planners, sales administration and other departments within the organization.  

Key Responsibilities: 
1. Ensure that every customer order received by the company is planned for and allocated to a specific machine or machines in the plant;
2. Monitor the performance of each department involved in meeting delivery dates;
3. Analyze and report upon variances between actual and budgeted costs;
4. Liaise regularly with the Purchasing Department to ensure that there are adequate stocks of raw materials available to meet production requirements;
5. Monitor the progress of work-in-progress through the various stages of manufacturing and take steps to resolve any bottlenecks;
6. Take responsibility for ensuring that each stage of the production process meets the required standard;
7. Implement the use of Standard Operating Procedures at all times;
8. Coordinate the distribution of finished goods to customers;
9. Plan and monitor production to ensure that agreed deadlines are met;
10. Assist the Sales Administration Manager in preparing monthly reports to management.

Qualifications: 
1. Higher education qualification such as a degree or diploma in business studies, engineering or equivalent;
2. At least three years’ experience in a similar role in a manufacturing environment;
3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
4. Experience in using computerized information systems including Microsoft Excel;
5. Good leadership skills.
