The Opportunity:

CACI is seeking a Structural Loads Engineer to support the NAVSEA Structures and Composite Division, which focuses on the structural development and testing of surface craft and submarines.

As the Structural Loads Engineer, you will provide support to Code 65, Structures and Composites Division as part of a team of roughly 20 people. CACI is looking for a candidate with a background and experience in hydrodynamics structural loads, knowledge of surface ship structural systems, operational characteristics, and design/analysis methods. As part of this role, you will contribute to stewardship and technical lead activities for Knowledge Areas relating to Full Scale Trials, Structural Performance Monitoring, and Hydrodynamic Model Testing

This opportunity provides a fantastic opportunity to grow your skillset while working to improve the Navy’s operational capabilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for formulating, guiding, and reviewing the work related to structural response and loads, including but not limited to analytical and experimental investigations related to surface ship structures; for applying physics/probabilistic/engineering concepts and critical analyses to provide solutions to complex engineering challenges of structural systems in seaway loads; for in-depth investigations into theoretical concepts relating to structural responses and loads for a variety of ship designs including monohulls, SWATHs, Catamarans, trimarans, and planing craft; for interpretation of empirical data to assess and compare structural response to predictive models to inform design and operational decisions.

  • Contribute to stewardship and technical lead activities for Knowledge Areas relating to Full Scale Trials, Structural Performance Monitoring, and Hydrodynamic Model Testing.

  • If not local, must be willing to relocate to the Bethesda, Maryland area.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • B.S. in Mechanical/Aerospace/Civil Engineering or related field.

  • M.S. in Mechanical/Aerospace/Civil Engineering or related field.

  • Must have experience with hydrodynamics structural loads.

  • 5+ years of experience in structural engineering and/or fatigue analysis.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

  • Ability to come on-site 3 days a week and/or as needed.

  • Mastery of scientific/physics/statistical/engineering theories, concepts, principles, and practices that enable serving as a recognized expert in order to conceive or apply novel and unique approaches to advance methodologies, improve practices, systems, or processes, or resolve novel problems/conditions.

  • Advanced knowledge of the surface ship structural systems, operational characteristics, and design/analysis methods.

  • Detailed understanding and experience with experimental testing and measured data, empirical data analysis methodologies, and experimental setups.

  • Ability to prepare clear and concise technical reports, presentations, and effectively communicate information in writing and orally with higher-level personnel within Carderock, at sponsoring activities, industry, senior leadership (including SES and 07 level), and other outside organizations.

  • Ability to conceptualize innovative methods and solutions, mature them into a technical approach, and work with stakeholders to secure resources to pursue new efforts.

  • Ability to plan and conduct analytical and experimental investigations of naval ship structures and components and interpret collected data to grasp and solve complex engineering problems relating to ship structural response, seaway loads, and statistics.

  • Ability to conceive and develop experimental testing approaches, instrumentation plans, and data analysis methodologies as required for structural response testing and evaluation to provide meaningful results to sponsoring activities.

Desired:

  • 10+ years of experience in structural engineering and/or fatigue analysis.

  • Ability to cultivate and manage a technical working group, including providing training and guidance, capability development/retention, business administration, documentation, and workload management.

  • Expertise in structural response sensors, electronics, and data acquisition systems to collect experimental data for testing and evaluation.

  • Demonstrated program management skills and experience, including the management of personnel, funding, resources, schedule, risk, technical complexity, and task prioritization.

  • FEA experience only relevant if it pertains to hydrodynamics.

  • Familiarity with statistical curves (i.e., wave impact probability and models).

This position is contingent on funding and may not be filled immediately. However, this position is representative of positions within CACI that are consistently available. Individuals who apply may also be considered for other positions at CACI.
