Job Description

Key Responsibilities & Scope of Practice

  • Demonstrate working knowledge and technical proficiency in the setup, testing, and operation of anesthesia and monitoring equipment across all anesthetizing locations, including OR and Non‑OR Anesthetizing Locations (NORA)

  • Perform daily anesthesia machine checks, validate functionality, and maintain documented competency in accordance with departmental standards

  • Set up patient monitoring equipment including ECG, operating tables, autotransfusion systems, pressure monitoring devices, and recording systems

  • Prepare and maintain massive transfusion equipment and ensure availability during high‑acuity cases and emergencies

  • Set up sterile fields for central line procedures and assist with central venous catheter placement, arterial line placement, and endotracheal intubations

  • Assist prior to and during surgical and anesthetic procedures, including peripheral nerve blocks, spinal anesthesia, and emergent interventions

  • Support anesthesia providers by assisting with patient positioning for anesthetic and procedural safety

  • Ensure MRI safety compliance by utilizing and verifying MRI‑compatible anesthesia equipment, monitors, and supplies

  • Respond promptly to STAT anesthesia overhead calls, providing immediate clinical and equipment support throughout the hospital

  • Perform Point‑of‑Care Testing (POCT) including ABGs, ACTs, and glucose testing to support real‑time clinical decision‑making

  • Flush anesthesia machines and prepare equipment according to Malignant Hyperthermia (MH) precaution protocols

  • Perform High‑Level Disinfection (HLD) for TEE probes, maintaining strict adherence to IFU, infection control, and regulatory requirements

  • May assist with patient transport, collection of clinical data sheets, and establishment of monitoring at destination locations

  • Clean, disinfect, and maintain non‑disposable anesthesia equipment in compliance with manufacturer Instructions for Use (IFU)

  • Coordinate movement, setup, and connection of anesthesia equipment, gases, and monitoring systems across ORs and NORA sites

  • Maintain inventory readiness by restocking anesthesia carts, Omnicells, procedure rooms, and equipment/storage areas

  • Identify malfunctioning equipment and initiate red ticket and work‑order processes; troubleshoot issues and deploy backup equipment as needed

  • Deliver age‑appropriate, patient‑centered care while supporting safe, efficient anesthesia workflows through collaboration and reliability


Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required.


Education Required:

  • High School Graduate.


Experience Required:

  • Typically requires 1 year of experience in a surgical, medical or related healthcare setting.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.

  • Basic computer proficiency.

  • Team members will maintain annual educational requirements.


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.

  • Exposed to chemical and radiation hazards and as a result protective clothing must be worn as necessary.

  • Exposed to infection hazards and as a result will use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  • Must stand the majority of the workday, as well as sit, walk, and lift throughout.

  • Must be able to:

  • lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist.

  • lift up to 20 lbs. over the head.

  • carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.

  • Must be able to:

  • push/pull with 30 lbs. of force.

  • perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.

  • Working atmosphere may contain fumes and odors from Operating Room (OR).
