Cardiology Tech (PRN)

Winston-Salem, NC

Job Summary:

The Cardiology Technician (PRN) provides diagnostic cardiac testing and monitoring support for patients across multiple care settings. This role performs electrocardiograms (EKGs), applies and manages ambulatory cardiac monitors including ZIO patches, supports ZIO Suite operations, and utilizes MUSE and EPIC systems for documentation and workflow. The PRN technician may cover day, night, weekend, and holiday shifts as needed to support departmental operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform 12-lead EKGs accurately and efficiently according to departmental and regulatory standards
  • Apply, educate patients on, and troubleshoot ZIO monitors and other ambulatory cardiac monitoring devices
  • Manage workflows within the ZIO Suite, including patient setup, device tracking, and return processing
  • Ensure proper data transmission, upload, and documentation of cardiac studies
  • Utilize MUSE for EKG management, editing, and transmission
  • Document patient information, procedures, and results accurately in EPIC
  • Verify patient identification and explain procedures to ensure patient understanding and comfort
  • Maintain equipment, troubleshoot technical issues, and report malfunctions promptly
  • Adhere to infection control, patient safety, and HIPAA guidelines
  • Communicate effectively with nurses, physicians, and other healthcare team members
  • Provide coverage across multiple shifts (days, nights, weekends, holidays) based on departmental needs
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and rhythm recognition
  • Ability to perform EKGs independently
  • Strong computer skills and ability to learn clinical software systems
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred

  • Completion of a Cardiology Technician or EKG Technician training program
  • Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
  • Prior experience with ZIO monitors, MUSE, and EPIC
  • Previous experience in a hospital or clinical cardiology setting
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to lift and move equipment and assist patients as needed
  • Manual dexterity for equipment placement and computer use

Work Schedule

  • PRN (as needed)
  • May include day, night, weekend, and holiday shifts
