Mob Entertainment is seeking a Technical Audio Designer with strong Unreal Engine expertise to join our team on a contract basis for our next release. This role is ideal for a highly skilled mid-to-senior-level sound designer who specializes in MetaSounds, Soundscapes, SoundCues, concurrency, and overall Unreal Engine audio implementation.
The ideal candidate will have deep technical knowledge of Unreal Engine's audio systems, be able to implement, optimize, and debug complex audio solutions, and ensure that sound design is both immersive and highly performant. This role will involve close collaboration with audio, design, and engineering teams to create a dynamic and interactive soundscape that enhances the overall player experience.
Design, implement, and optimize interactive audio systems using MetaSounds, Soundscapes, and SoundCues within Unreal Engine 5.
Ensure high-performance, scalable, and flexible audio solutions, managing concurrency, sound prioritization, and memory efficiency.
Work closely with Game Designers, Engineers, and the Audio Team to integrate gameplay-driven audio that enhances the player experience.
Create procedural and systemic audio solutions that dynamically react to in-game events, environments, and player actions.
Develop audio propagation, spatialization, and environmental reactivity to make sound feel immersive and responsive.
Debug and optimize audio systems for performance, ensuring efficient CPU and memory usage.
Maintain best practices for real-time audio implementation in Unreal Engine to avoid common pitfalls such as audio stuttering, overlapping concurrency issues, and DSP overloads.
Collaborate with the engineering team to troubleshoot technical audio issues and implement custom audio scripting where necessary.
Assist in developing documentation and knowledge-sharing resources for the team, ensuring optimal workflows for Unreal Engine’s audio tools.
Deep expertise in Unreal Engine’s audio systems, including MetaSounds, SoundCues, Soundscapes, and concurrency management.
Experience implementing audio in Unreal Engine 5 with a focus on performance optimization and scalability.
Proficiency in DSP processing, real-time audio synthesis, and procedural sound design.
Strong understanding of gameplay audio implementation, mixing, and dynamic sound behavior.
Experience working with attenuation, spatialization, reverb, and real-time environmental audio processing.
Strong problem-solving and debugging skills, with experience resolving complex audio-related technical challenges.
Experience working with source control workflows (Git, Perforce, etc.).
Ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines, including design, engineering, and production teams.
Comfortable with iterative development, taking feedback, and refining audio systems to achieve the best experience.
Self-motivated and able to work independently, ensuring that audio solutions are both high-quality and performant.
Experience working on procedural or systemic audio-driven game systems.
Familiarity with Wwise or FMOD, though Unreal Engine’s native tools are the focus.
Knowledge of C++ or Blueprint scripting for deeper integration of gameplay-driven audio logic.
Background in psychoacoustics or real-time audio synthesis for adaptive and generative music.
Passion for retro-inspired sound design, with experience in chiptune synthesis, old-school game sound emulation, or layered hybrid audio approaches.
Deliver clean, efficient, and well-optimized audio systems within Unreal Engine 5.
Communicate progress effectively and proactively flag potential technical issues.
Work collaboratively to ensure that sound implementation aligns with gameplay needs and technical constraints.
Maintain a high standard of audio quality while balancing technical limitations.
If you’re an Unreal Engine audio specialist with a passion for technical implementation, sound performance, and dynamic in-game audio, we’d love to hear from you!
