The Opportunity

We are now hiring an Open-Source Program Manager/Coordinator to help establish and operate our Open-Source Program Office (OSPO) at Hitachi Energy. This role is central to our strategy of embedding open-source excellence into our software engineering governance framework, with a strong emphasis on operational risk management and strategic enablement.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the OSPO, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and governance standards.

  • Coordinate open-source initiatives across business units, tracking progress and ensuring delivery against objectives.

  • Collaborate with Developer Advocates to establish and continuously improve the internal OSS approval pipeline.

  • Work closely with the OSS Compliance Manager and Cyber Security teams to embed legal, license, operational risk management and security compliance into development workflows.

  • Identify and mitigate operational risks associated with OSS usage, including business continuity, supportability, and rights management.

  • Facilitate cross-functional engagement to promote open-source best practices and foster a culture of responsible OSS adoption.

  • Organize internal and external events to build visibility and engagement with the open-source community.

Your Background

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

  • Experience in program coordination, preferably in open-source, software governance, or risk management contexts.

  • Familiarity with OSS licensing, compliance tools (e.g., Black Duck), SBOM creation, and internal approval workflows.

  • Understanding of operational risks in OSS ecosystems.

  • Strong organizational and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work across legal, security, and engineering domains.

  • Highly meriting: Experience working with or deep understanding of Hitachi Energy products, platforms, and development environments.
