The EHS Manager will lead the Environmental, Health, and Safety strategy and tactical execution for Xylem’s manufacturing operations. This role is responsible for partnering with operational leadership teams, corporate EHS teams, and employees at all levels to develop, lead, and sustain initiatives prioritizing injury prevention, regulatory compliance, environmental performance, and environmental footprint reduction. The EHS Manager ensures continuous improvement in workplace safety, health, and environmental impact while fostering a world-class safety culture. The position reports directly to the Senior Manager of EHS and collaborates closely with site operations leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Oversight

  • Serve as part of the site leadership team, providing direction, coaching, and subject matter expertise on all EHS activities.
  • Lead the strategic planning and tactical execution of EHS programs to deliver on critical safety, health, and sustainability commitments.
  • Implement and drive continuous improvement in injury prevention, hazard control, and environmental impact reduction through risk assessments, mitigation strategies, and action plans.
  • Lead and manage incident investigations, ensuring timely identification of root causes and execution of corrective actions.
  • Drive alignment with Xylem’s global EHS strategy, supporting the development of site-specific goals and KPIs.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, federal, and international safety and environmental regulations, Xylem’s policies, and consensus standards.
  • Partner with leadership teams across levels and functions to embed EHS principles into everyday operations and decision-making.
  • Lead efforts and collaborate with the site team to minimize the environmental footprint, focusing on reducing waste-to-landfill, water use, and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
  • Track and report on program-level sustainability metrics, including waste, water, and energy reductions, supporting the site team in achieving sustainability targets.
  • Act as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies, facilitating audits, inspections, and necessary actions to maintain compliance.
  • Promote and support a culture of continuous improvement, fostering cross-functional collaboration to enhance EHS practices.
  • Analyze and monitor key EHS metrics to assess program effectiveness and provide feedback to senior management on performance and opportunities for improvement.

Tactical Oversight

  • Ensure 100% completion of EHS training for all employees, incorporating a combination of CBT (computer-based training) and in-person sessions.
  • Lead and coordinate environmental inspections, including air, water, and waste regulatory audits, and ensure cradle-to-grave compliance for waste management.
  • Manage contractor safety programs to ensure compliance with Xylem's safety standards and site-specific safety procedures.
  • Execute corporate EHS and security directives, ensuring site-level implementation and timely completion.
  • Lead risk assessments, job hazard analyses, ergonomic assessments, and safety audits, prioritizing actions for injury prevention.
  • Oversee incident response, serving as the Incident Commander in the event of hazardous material spills or other emergencies.
  • Ensure accurate recordkeeping of safety and environmental data, including regulatory logs, accident reports, and performance metrics through EHS management systems.
  • Lead cross-functional teams on accident investigations, facilitating learning opportunities and implementing preventive measures to avoid recurrence.
  • Assist with maintaining site-specific safety-related permits and ensuring operational compliance with air monitoring standards.
  • Oversee and drive initiatives related to Emergency Response Plans (ERP) and Occupational Health Monitoring.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

  • Successful development, implementation, and maintenance of EHS programs at the assigned location(s) with year-over-year improvements in performance metrics.
  • Achievement of sustainability goals, including reductions in total recordable incident rate (TRIR), lost time incident rate (LTIR), greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, water consumption, and waste.
  • Achieve compliance milestones, including certifications (ISO 14001, ISO 45001), permits, and adherence to regulatory requirements.

Skills & Attributes

  • In-depth knowledge of federal (e.g., OSHA, EPA) and other relevant safety and environmental regulations. ISO 14001, 45001, and OSHA VPP star experience desired.
  • Strong experience in safety management systems, risk assessments, and accident investigation processes.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and EHS management system software.

Education and Experience

  • An undergraduate degree in occupational safety, environmental science, public health, or industrial or safety engineering is required. An advanced degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years of EHS experience.
  • Professional safety certifications such as OSHA 30-Hour, NEBOSH General, CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist), Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST), or equivalent are highly desired.
