About the Job:

The Red Hat Ansible team is looking for an Associate Manager, Software Engineering to join us to help grow and guide a team of engineers. In this role, you will be a part of the Ansible Content engineering team and work in close collaboration with peers often in multiple geographies to help to create and support multiple Ansible collections for the Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform. You will be responsible to work with Product management and execute on the strategy for Ansible in Ansible Content team. As a Manager, you will be responsible for managing the team and drive their performance and development plans

What will you do?

  • Lead a global engineering team to design / develop / deliver / support Ansible Collections features and releases, manage resource planning and allocation, and provide team leadership 

  • Create an open, diverse, and inclusive team environment

  • Coach and provide feedback to associates, and support their career development and growth

  • Plan sprints with the Engineering team and plan releases for Ansible collections.

  • Contribute to defining the strategy, working with product management to prioritize and align feature plans to the business objectives, schedule and communicate these externally

  • Closely collaborate with other teams, product management, design, documentation, sales, support, and marketing teams

  • Work with the Engineering team to ensure all collections are tested and ensure quality content collections release.

  • Focus on customer requirements and use cases to guide and supervise the efforts of the team to release product versions and resolve defects, in close coordination with peers.

  • Work with cross-functional managers and teams across support, quality assurance, documentation, and other areas to create and deliver a high-quality service.

  • Represent team’s work and lead with Empathy.

What will you bring?

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

  • 6+ years of significant software development with 1+ years as a technical lead or similar work experience

  • Previous experience leading globally distributed engineering teams and managing software development projects as a team lead.

  • Demonstrated ability to apply technology to business problems

  • Experience successfully leading through ambiguity and change

  • Leadership style that is approachable, collaborative, inclusive, respectful

  • Ability to deep-dive into architectural and technical discussions

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience working with customers or in customer situations

  • Experience in working with product management 

  • Familiar with agile or scrum methodologies

  • Familiarity with Enterprise Software development

The following are considered a plus:

  • Understanding of Ansible and Terraform technologies

  • Understanding of open source development models 

  • Prior participation in open source community software development or leadership
