Provo City is seeking a full-time Electric Operations Manager to oversee the operations and maintenance of power systems in the Energy Department. This position will work closely with the Energy Director.

The Electric Operations Manager will be a skilled management professional familiar with the practical and interpersonal skills necessary to manage a team, as well as the technical know-how to oversee operation and functionality of an electric power transmission and distribution system for electric utilities. What is the compensation package?

(G43) $118,440 - $163,271 annually (depending on experience) plus a generous benefits package.

  • Plan, supervise, and manage the work of subordinates in power line, labor, line clearance, meter maintenance and repair, and distribution service in support of the comprehensive power distribution system.

  • Ensure adherence to safety standards.

  • Confer with and advise Engineering and Customer Service Department employees.

  • Survey and estimate costs of property damage.

  • Anticipate use requirements, confer with private and public utility providers, and plan for construction of future lines.

  • Research, analyze, and make recommendations on providing various power distribution levels to a variety of users.

  • Attend meetings and represent the City as required.

  • Assist in preparing the department budget.

  • Identify, evaluate, and resolve personnel concerns including hiring, firing, training, and performance reviews.

  • Assist other employees and perform other related duties as required.

What are the minimum qualifications?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Public Administration, or related field

  • Four years of certified journey-level experience as a Power Line Crew Supervisor.

  • A valid, lawful Class A Commercial Driver License.

Provo City will honor equivalent combinations of job-related education/experience [substituting each 1 year of post-secondary education/training for 6 months of experience] as meeting minimum qualifications.

What is the selection process?

Applications will be reviewed in the order they are submitted, with the first screening being held on August 21, 2024. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications listed above to be eligible for consideration.

If selected for hire, candidate will be required to successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal. Applicants with unsatisfactory drug screen results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
