What You’ll Do
The VMware System Administrator is responsible for the deployment, configuration, management, and monitoring of virtual infrastructure environments. This role ensures stable and secure access to enterprise applications while supporting business continuity and innovation. The role involves working across IT domains including automation, server administration, virtualization, storage, security, and cloud technologies, with a primary emphasis on VMware environments.
Responsibilities:
Administer, maintain, and optimize VMware vSphere environments including ESXi hosts, vCenter, and virtual machines.
Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of hardware, virtual infrastructure, server resources, and key processes.
Configure and maintain virtual networking, storage integration, and VM backups.
Apply patches, updates, and security hardening to VMware environments in line with IT policies and best practices.
Support disaster recovery and business continuity planning through replication and backup technologies (e.g., Veeam, Zerto, etc.).
Collaborate with storage, network, and security teams to ensure consistent and secure infrastructure.
Troubleshoot and resolve system-related incidents, performance issues, and service outages.
Document systems configurations, maintenance activities, and standard operating procedures.
Participate in infrastructure projects, system upgrades, and capacity planning.
Support and collaborate with System and Storage Administrators to ensure end-to-end system performance.
Provide Tier 2/3 escalation support for VMware-related issues.
Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation for virtual infrastructure support.
Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement efforts.
Escalate complex issues to engineering or vendor support as necessary.
Maintain accurate runbooks, configurations, and system diagrams.
Assist in development of SOPs, training material, and technical guidelines.
Requirements
Associate degree in IT or related field (or 3 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree).
Experience with server hardware (Cisco UCS preferred) and Windows/Linux OS.
Familiarity with scripting and automation tools is a plus.
Understanding of networking concepts (VLANs, vSwitches, distributed switches)
