Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Hybrid)

The Director of Site Deployment group is responsible for strategy, management and delivering the Installation and Test & Commissioning scope for URS GTS signaling solution (i.e. Wayside, Onboard, Central, and Data Communication System) on a given project in accordance with established schedule and budget. In this capacity, Installation and Test & Commissioning personnel as well as the Manager of Site Deployment and Manager of DCS Deployment reports to the Director.

Key Accountabilities:

Technical

  • Approves work instructions, guidelines, processes, work plans, schedules and budgets for the Department.
  • Directs technical matters and provides leadership, training and guidance to the staff.
  • Defines competitiveness initiatives on defined scope to further improve the margin.
  • Validates Site Deployment estimates for new proposals to align with Deployment/Migration Strategy.
  • Accountable for Site Deployment budget and schedule for all active projects.
  • Reviews project financials summary with staff and Managers and proposes recommendations to Project Portfolio Director and Vice President of Solutions Deployment.
  • Possess strong knowledge of Installation practices and processes to challenge and optimize site installation schedule and activities
  • Possess strong knowledge of System Validation processes to challenge and optimize site commissioning schedule and activities
  • Conducts technical meetings with internal and external stakeholders on critical topics.
  • Supports internal and external audits to meet organization objectives.
  • Accountable for ensuring that all safety recommendations are implemented through company’s Deployment processes and procedures.

Safety

  • Ensures all staff globally are trained on URS Site Safety Rulebook, and ensure this training is up to date
  • Promotes a safety culture where product safety is paramount.

Management

  • Managers are responsible to create a Performance Driven organization and Culture. 
  • They will assess, measure and reward accountability and efficiency.  All leaders will continue to develop and improve our key talent. 
  • Managers will ensure SMART and quantitative objectives are set and are responsible to engage in and action all elements of the HR Cycle including Talent Review, Succession Planning, Professional Development Discussion and Training initiatives within their teams. 
  • Managers are accountable to ensure all actions from these performance driven activities are developed and progressed. 
  • As part of key functions as a Manager, he/she is responsible for ensuring consistency between work demand and capacity within their portfolio through smart task assignments.  They continue to drive the one team spirit within Hitachi Rail, will manage team growth and address LFR challenges. 
  • Identifies the required skills, allocates roles and responsibilities to the various individual contributors and leads these contributors as a team. For the team, he/she schedules, coordinates and monitors the implementation of tasks.
  • Manages, motivates, trains and appraises employees’ performance and acts as a mentor to assigned staff.
  • Monitors workload of the functional staff to ensure schedules are being adhered to.  Reviews and approves work assigned in the area of control, resolving any technical or human resource problems.
  • Reviews training plans prepared by both Managers to ensure staff can meet current and future departmental commitments.
  • Based on feedback from both Managers, reviews potential new candidates’ skills, background and competencies against Department needs before giving approval to HR for hiring

Key Requirements:

  • At least 15 years’ experience in various technical and delivery roles within railway industry
  • At least 10 years’ people management experience (either as functional or under project)
  • At least 2 years’ experience on a field assignment
  • Display adept Hitachi GTS Product knowledge on end-to-end processes
  • Excellent knowledge on Deployment operations (specifically Installation, Test & Commissioning, and Trial Run Operation)
  • Excellent knowledge of CBTC railway industry and technology
  • Strong knowledge of System Validation processes
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organization and negotiating skills
  • Excellent knowledge in Life Cycle management
  • Excellent Customer service experience
  • Bachelor’s degree of Engineering

Preferred Qualifications:

  • P. Eng. License would be an asset
