Material’s UX Researchers bridge the gap between rich insights and actionable design, turning data points into compelling screen-based user experiences. Rather than relying on trends or personal taste, this team delves into data, user feedback, and business objectives to inform and propose solutions. Then, they partner with technologists, engineers and product managers to bring designs to market through an agile methodology. Projects range in scope and type, from new-to-the-world app and website creation, to feature enhancements and optimizations for existing products, to the creation of new design language systems and more. 

   

We are seeking an experienced UX Researcher, knowledgeable in coding and Notetaking, on qualitative projects for a major tech client. As an Associate UX Researcher, you will be expected to understand and uphold the standards for high-quality UX research, ensuring the data you capture and the clarity of the documentation improves the experience of users and supports research goals and client needs.  

 

As Associate, UX Research, you will 

  • Attend live remote UX research sessions (interviews) or watch recordings 

  • Use a high level of discretion and maintain privacy for participant and client protection   

  • Work with a lead researcher to identify key moments in the research sessions that will help tell the story of the participant in relation to the research goals  

  • Work with a video cutter/editor to hone in on the best insights for inclusion in research reporting  

  • Create and maintain notetaking documents in collaboration with a lead researcher on the project 

  • Employ excellent listening and coding skills for recording notes that will be used for analysis and inclusion within reports  

  • Able to work on a fast timeline with quick turnarounds and high expectations for content quality and completion.  

  • Able to see the big picture and tell that story  

 

About you 

  • 1-5 years UX Research experience: conducting, analyzing, reporting, coding and notetaking

  • Required: Prior experience with qualitative research coding and notetaking, with the ability to learn and comprehend a qual research codebook prior to the research starting  

  • Ability to systematically organize and classify qual data to identity themes and patterns 

  • Excellent document/template creation and management skills (slides, docs, Excel/Sheets) 

  • Excellent file management skills (file folder management, drives, cloud storage, etc.) 

  • Highly experienced in using notetaking and coding templates  

  • Ability to identify key moments within the research sessions for inclusion in the reporting  

  • Works closely with researchers to use research notes to tell a compelling and clear story in research reporting  

  • Ability timestamp moments or quotes that can be used later in reporting.  

  • Attention to detail, with the ability to evaluate every aspect of the notes and coding for quality and clarity  

  • Experience with cleaning data (qual notes and/or codes) 

  • Excellent communication skills  

  • Team player  

  • Works autonomously and will little supervision 

  • Excellent time and project management skills 

  • Excellent organizational and problem solving abilities  

  • Preferred: Prior experience as an Associate or Senior level researcher. Bachelor’s in UX Research or related field (psychology, information science, UX design, computer science, etc.) 

  • You will be required to demonstrate proficiency and experience in UX Research note taking and coding.

Pay Range: $21.06 - 26.08/hour

The range shown represents a grouping of relevant ranges currently in use at Material. Actual range for this position may differ, depending on location and specific skillset required for the work itself.
