Location

The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed. Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days.

Division of Economic Security:
Through our Economic Security Division (ESD), Denver Human Services seeks to engage residents in strengthening economic well-being and mobility across their lifespan. By leveraging the resources of Denver Human Services’ programs and a network of community partnerships, Economic Security provides a holistic approach to service delivery in order to assist customers in the ability to foresee crisis as well as adapt to and leverage changing life conditions to their advantage.


The Economic Security Division is comprised of the following program areas: Colorado Works Workforce Development, SNAP to Success (Denver’s name for Employment First), Childcare Assistance Program (CCAP) and Child Support Services (CSS).

The Economic Security Division is seeking a talented and passionate Staff Assistant. This position will report directly to the Division Director and serve as the hub for 130+ employees. This position will often find themselves in a fast-paced work environment, with a lot of moving parts. The successful candidate will have an inherent curiosity, the capacity to learn, and a creative flare. We are also looking for someone that is naturally proactive and does not wait to be told what to do. An individual who will anticipate needs before they arise, with very strong organizational skills. It is critical for this position to be a highly effective communicator, and able to meet business requirements throughout all levels of the organization.   

Additionally, the Staff Assistant:

  • Prepares, monitors, tracks, updates, reviews, maintains, and edits internal and/or external documents such as updated organizational charts.
  • Managing budgets, tracking expenditures, and maintaining accurate financial records in compliance with organizational policies. Keeps apprised of the status of the work of the management team, and anticipates needs by gathering records, reports, correspondence, statistics, or other information.
  • Arranges/coordinates appointments, meetings, conferences, and contacts the appropriate individuals to attend.
  • Responsible for participating as a member of the Continuity of Operations Planning (COOP) committee, serve as a Workplace Safety Ambassador, coordinates space planning needs for division staff, and assigned as a Logistics Chief for our Department of Operations Center (DOC).
  • Assists with the recruitment, hiring and onboarding process for new employees.
  • Is responsible for monitoring, ordering and submitting payment for supplies, hardware, software, training, official functions and other related expenditures.
  • Communicates general information with internal staff and external entities.
  • Briefs management team on subject matter for upcoming meetings/events.
  • Answers telephones, screens calls and visitors, and directs individuals to the proper contact.
  • Prioritizes communication efforts, attends meetings and takes notes, and prepares presentations for the management team.
  • Maintains, edits, and reviews policies and procedures for grammatical structure and consistency.
  • Explains, interprets, and implements office policies and procedures to internal and external contacts.
  • Occasional travel required for event support and item pickup as needed.
  • Training new employees in administrative support functions as needed.

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:

  • Previous professional experience in finance, bookkeeping or accounting.
  • Previous professional experience communicating across several organizational levels.
  • Previous professional experience taking notes or minutes in a complex setting.
  • Proficient with video and audio-conferencing systems including Microsoft Team and data tracking systems.
  • Effective time management skills while coordinating multiple projects and completing support duties.
  • Passion for and flexibility to work with diverse populations, neighborhoods, and partners throughout the Denver community.
  • Fluency in all Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • The ability to be a team player.
  • Superior customer service skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
  • Experience Requirement: Four (4) years of experience performing specialized and/or technical office support work of the type and at the level of Administrative Support Assistant IV.
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of education may be substituted for each required year experience.
