About the Unit
Our Cardiovascular Recovery Room is a small unit within Meijer Heart Center, specializing in the recovery of cardiac/cardiothoracic surgery patients, for the first 24 hours after their surgery. We are close nit team trained in critical care. The day shiftworks with the patients as they come out of surgery, and the night shift helps the patient transition from our unit to either the ICU or a Progressive Care Unit.
Taking care of 9 patients per shift, Critical Care Bedside responsibilities, including ambulating patients, monitoring patients vitals, blood sugar, responding to call lights for other needs, hygiene/bed bathing, wound and catheter care, EKG's, Charting, transport to other units after recovery, sheath removals, and sometimes floated to other units to do safety sitter/1:1 shift.
Performs routine bedside nursing activities including: bathing and personal grooming of patients; ambulating, moving and turning patients; assisting patients with bedpans or urinary devices; making patient beds and caring for personal property.
Applies and changes sterile and non-sterile dressing using appropriate technique.
Keeps professional nursing staff advised of current patient status as well as changes in patient condition as they occur.
Assists in admitting, transferring and discharging patients.
Assists in pre-operative and post-operative care.
This will require 11 weeks of training and being available for 2 weekdays Monday through Thursday, as well as rotational weekends which would be Friday & Saturday.
