The Role 

As our Category Manager you are responsible for identifying, developing, and delivering offers that meet our ever-evolving customer needs. Working as part of a squad you will drive profitable growth within the squad’s categories, achieving sales and profit targets. This is a leadership‑driven role owning food category strategy, supplier partnerships, and commercial performance. You’ll shape category direction, negotiate with suppliers, analyse performance, and guide a team to execute with excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Category Strategy — Develop and execute multi‑year category plans that drive growth, margin, and customer value.
  • Supplier Management — Lead negotiations, build strategic partnerships, and secure best‑in‑market commercial terms.
  • Product Development — Collaborate with internal teams to innovate and optimise the food range, ensuring relevance and quality.
  • Performance Analytics — Use data to evaluate category health, identify opportunities, and guide decision‑making.
  • Leadership — Mentor and influence cross‑functional teams, fostering a high‑performance culture.
  • Promotional Planning — Oversee pricing, promotions, and in‑store execution to maximise sales and profitability.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration — Partner with operations, marketing, supply chain, and finance to deliver aligned outcomes.


What's in your toolkit:

  • Food Buying experience - Proven Food experience in a comparable FMCG environment, proven track record in buying, category management or procurement within food or FMCG
  • Business Acumen — Strong commercial judgement, financial literacy, and strategic thinking. Comfortable with data, insights, and performance dashboards.
  • Leadership Capability — Demonstrated ability to lead, influence, and drive outcomes across teams.
  • A “customer first” approach to developing and executing innovative strategic plans that drive commercial outcomes.
  • Experience in leveraging customer insights into actionable outcomes.
  • Energy to foster enthusiasm among the squad in bringing category vision to life
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate/influence both internal and external stakeholders, with the ability to secure favorable terms and build long term supplier relationships
  • Communication Skills — Clear, persuasive communicator who can influence at all levels.
