The Occupational Health Nurse is an advanced nurse generalist applying clinical occupational nursing practices in large high-volume medical clinics, stand-alone focus facility medical stations or administrative office environments. You may be assigned special assignments and to support the local Human Resources department’s strategy. You will serve as a highly skilled, autonomous occupational health nurse within the Corporate Medical Department, servicing stakeholders that may include Operations, EH&S, HR organizations, Compensation and Benefits and the Corporate Medical team.  


What you will do: 
 

  • Respond to on-site medical emergency response and leads on-site Emergency Response Team (ERT), including compliance and training.
  • Delivery of comprehensive nursing services and strategy related to employee wellness, day-to-day medical clinic support, and illness and injury prevention initiatives.
  • Partners with leadership in the crafting of facility Emergency Response Plans (ERP).  Function as an autonomous nurse with the ability to respond independently to most clinical situations and collaborate with cross-functional teams to support our Caterpillar employees in health and safety.  
  • Seek ways to innovate, improve and create best-in-class occupational medical practices. Consult and provide feedback to employees and providers on evidence bases practice guidelines.
  • Provide occupational support, health coaching and referrals to appropriate care. Lead Caterpillar wellness program and wellbeing initiatives, including monthly campaigns, health initiatives and managing onsite health exams.
  • Partner with EH&S and HR to generate and implement ongoing improvements that support a proactive health and safety culture to improve the health and wellbeing of our team members. 
  • Acts as the local liaison with contracted health providers, including occupational health providers and providers for the health promotion examination.
  • Represent the Corporate Medical Department, its policies and strategy.  
  • Act as the centralized repository for medical data and the HIPAA-compliant liaison.
  • Support medical processes including return-to-work, evaluating readiness, ergonomics, and other health and wellness processes.
  • Receive and critically evaluate medical documentation to determine the need for medical leave and the appropriateness of both medical restrictions and accommodations.
  • Compile and maintain accurate and complete records within appropriate database(s). Ongoing review of internal processes, driving improvements. 

What you will have: 


Education/Experience: Licensed as a Registered Nurse or LPN in the state of North Carolina, 3-5 years of job-related experience in occupational medicine or acute care. Skilled in phlebotomy and active CPR. Desired: knowledge and experience of ergonomics, worker’s compensation and OSHA-
Medical Record Keeping and Diagnosis: Knowledge of the concepts, methods, tools, and applications used in medical record management; ability to document, manage and maintain patient medical records following established processes and guidelines. Knowledge of the techniques, roles, and responsibilities in assessing and diagnosing patients; ability to apply the knowledge appropriately assess and diagnose patients into diverse situations. 
Nursing Assessment and Care – HNU and Occupational Safety and Health Standards (OSHS). Knowledge of NC medical and work comp laws and policies.

Compliance: Knowledge of the policies and activities regarding nursing assessment and care; ability to assess patients' nursing care needs, develop and implement a nursing care plan, monitor progress, and adjust as necessary. Knowledge of regulations and standards regarding the occupational safety and health of personnel working within an organization; ability to apply relevant regulations and standards to daily work activities. 
Clinical Leadership and Interpersonal Relationships: Knowledge of key business and clinical leadership concepts relevant to the healthcare function; ability to balance business needs with the needs of patients' and patient care priorities. Knowledge of the techniques and the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner. 
Office Support Tools and Medical Devices and Tools:  Knowledge of commonly used office hardware, software, and equipment; ability to use the tools available at the desktop (for example: word processing, email, presentation software, and spreadsheets. Knowledge of medical devices and tools; ability to use medical devices and tools to evaluate and treat patients. Knowledge in a EMR system, preferably Cority is desired.
