What you will do

The Major Projects Control Specialist is responsible for overseeing the planning, scheduling, and budgeting aspects of construction projects. This role involves monitoring project performance, managing cost control measures, and ensure project documentation compliance. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in project control methodologies, and analytical skills to provide accurate and timely information for decision-making

How you will do it

This position will report directly to the Operations Manager. This individual will be working closely collaborating with our project team and trade partners.

 

  • Analyze project performance data, including schedule adherence and cost variances

  • Prepare and present regular progress reports to project stakeholders, highlighting key metrics and issues

  • Establish risk management protocol which includes identification, documentation, mitigation and tracking of potential risks on the project. In addition, determine potential cost and schedule/progress impacts of potential risks as they are identified

  • Monitor risk factors and implement contingency plans as necessary

  • Coordinate with the project team to address and resolve issues promptly

  • Ensure all project documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and compliant with company policies and industry regulations

  • Facilitate assessments and reviews

  • Provide technical support and guidance on project control processes

  • Attend project meetings and contribute to discussions on project performance and strategy

  • Implement cost control measures to mitigate financial risks and manage change orders effectively

  • Monitor progress against the schedule, identifying potential delays and recommending corrective actions

  • Have thorough knowledge of the company's contracts and understanding of all parties involved

  • Understand and implement accepted Planning & Scheduling Best Practices 

  • Monitor multiple project schedules being developed and updated by Operations staff and provide guidance as necessary

  • Critique, create, and recommend improvements to departmental policies and procedures

  • Develop and deliver specialized Planning, Scheduling and other Project Controls training for Johnson Controls, Inc

 

What we look for

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Construction Management, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or other business-related fields or similar relevant work experience

  • Minium 3-5 years’ experience in MEP Construction

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Careful attention to detail and reliability of output

  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced team environment

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and MS Project

  • Knowledge of construction industry standards, practices, and regulations

Preferred

  • Highly motivated individual with strong organizational and time management skills

  • Strong quantitative, analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Experience with large-scale or complex construction projects

  • PMP Certification preferred

  • Familiarity with contract management and procurement processes.

  • Experience with projects related to Mechanical Retrofits, HVAC controls, BAS management, Fire management, and Security management systems is desired. HVAC is highly preferred.
