What you’ll be doing...


The Verizon Cyber Security (VCS) organization securely enables the business by protecting assets and information across Verizon networks, infrastructure and applications. VCS integrates cybersecurity governance, policies, technologies and operations across Verizon, and works to incorporate security into the design of technology systems and services.

The Senior Security Engineer part of the Verizon Platform Security Engineering team will play a crucial role in designing, implementing, and maintaining the security posture of our cloud infrastructure and platforms. You will work closely with engineering, operations, and security teams to ensure that our systems are secure, compliant, and resilient.

This Senior Security Engineer will will be a key contributor in information security, problem solving and relationship management to be part of internal programs aimed at: achieving certification and attestation of API security against Verizon security policies, industry standards and regulations, and government regulations, identifying and mitigating security risks in our applications & cloud deployments; ensuring security  alignment to corporate policies; and balancing API security requirements with the dynamic needs of our users and the values of our company.

In this role you will gain valuable experience and insight in protecting Verizon’s multiple cloud environments focusing on APIs and will be at the heart of guarding our data and applications against advanced threat adversaries. The responsibilities includes

  • Being proficient with Verizon corporate api security standards and best practices

  • Administering SaaS based API security solution (Apigee, 42Crunch, ReadyAPI, etc.) to support following activities

    • Managing user administration.

    • Focusing on Customer-service.

    • Producing reports, scorecards and related metrics to stakeholders

    • Managing vendor(s) to meet the needs of the business – drive future enhancements

    • Developing and maintaining internal documentation

  • Working with various cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP

  • Writing CI/CD pipelines and monitoring scripts

  • Developing ansible playbook to deploy and manage the application in AWS EC2

  • Monitoring AWS infrastructure health, performance

  • Monitoring application with tools like New Relic, Grafana, Prometheus

  • Supporting applications on Kubernetes clusters

  • Supporting customers on user questions, concerns, and requests via various channels

  • Handling customer support calls, security risk metric communications in various forum and on-call support when required

  • Working closely with API Management, Application Security and Business units to support their technical guidance

  • Identifying threats and opportunities and reporting security risk findings to the stakeholders

  • Providing technical mentoring and knowledge transfer to members of the team 

  • Performing all other duties as assigned

  • Willing to work in the third shift

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience 

  • Familiarity with major cloud providers (AWS, GCP) and their security offerings is essential

  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools, such as CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and containerization.

  • Strong understanding of security principles and best practices

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Professional certifications include AWS Associate or Professional certification or willingness to obtain within 12 months of hire.

  • Experience with scripting languages, such as Python or Bash, for automation and troubleshooting.

  • Maintain accurate records of customer interactions and solutions in support ticketing system

  • Create user guides, FAQs, and other documentation to assist users

  • Cloud Computing

    • Basic awareness cloud services such as IAM, compute (i.e. EC2), storage (volume/object), networking (VPC, VCN. Load Balancers, Security Groups/List), EKS.

  • DevOps

    • Familiarity with Git Lab, Jenkins, Ansible, JIRA, Confluence

    • Familiarity with CI/CD tools

    • Experience in agile development methodologies

  • Hands on experience with Looker
