OVERVIEW:

DICK'S Sporting Goods is undertaking a transformation from being the world’s best sports retailer to becoming the world’s best sports company.  This transformation centers around a focus on the Athlete and building from their needs outward. This means offering a comprehensive, integrated set of products and services that equip, inspire and improve their game.

In support of this vision, we have created a newly formed team to focus on transformation of the Athlete Experience (AX). The mandate of this team is to develop and drive the cross functional strategy, roadmap and value in support of this strategy.

As Senior Director AX, you will be in a central leadership role across the portfolio of AX that spans across many programs that cut across our Business and Technology teams.  You will need to be well versed in working across all levels of a cross-functional organization and will be held accountable to supporting the delivery of defined outcomes and value, through the lens of influence, management and when relevant execution.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Leadership – Expanding Influence through Decision Making, Coaching, and Management

In this role, you will oversee a select group of direct reports and manage cross-functional teammates within the AX sphere to achieve key deliverables for enterprise initiatives.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Mobilize cross-functional teams using evidence-based influencing skills.

  • Lead workshops with stakeholders and technology partners to align strategy and work.

  • Provide executive-level updates on prioritization and progress.

  • Translate stakeholder insights into prioritization and product vision.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to enhance business proficiency and promote human-centered design principles.

Leadership & People Management

  • Influence teammates and peers without formal authority using organizational agility.

  • Conduct coaching conversations and provide strategic feedback.

  • Foster a people-first culture where teammates thrive.

  • Demonstrate confidence and deep understanding in cross-functional initiatives.

Strategy: Planning to Solve Athlete Problems and Drive Market Impact

Form Strategy & Prioritize Work

  • Lead high-complexity, high-impact enterprise initiatives.

  • Define and support strategy across multiple projects.

  • Create discovery strategies and identify new product opportunities.

  • Co-author roadmaps based on strategic enterprise needs.

  • Use decision support tools to weigh competing factors.

  • Communicate the rationale behind prioritized work to executives.

  • Share the cross-functional roadmap strategy with relevant leaders and stakeholders.

  • Explain the value of discovery and testing.

Identify Opportunities

  • Lead discovery processes using data to pinpoint athlete pain points.

  • Identify data patterns and build research models.

  • Prioritize problems for optimal business outcomes.

  • Set long-term vision for large strategic projects.

  • Use mixed research methods and design thinking to formulate strategies.

Gather Feedback, Form & Track KPIs/Metrics

  • Use goal frameworks to set metrics and outcomes.

  • Identify patterns through behavioral and usage trends.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to build goals and discovery objectives.

  • Conduct research to determine ROI.

  • Use data to articulate product stories and athlete needs.

  • Drive accountability through data-driven ROI ceremonies.

Execution: Overseeing the Design and Delivery of Athlete Solutions

Deliver Products/Features

  • Identify and mitigate dependencies across cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

  • Communicate risks associated with the product roadmap and deliverables.

  • Guide the creation of the release plan, including feature prioritization.

  • Provide oversight in developing discovery objectives and goals in collaboration with product teams and stakeholders.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • 10-15 years experience
