Job Summary

We are seeking a strong Systems Engineer II (Cloud) to build out technical services in Microsoft Azure and some technical work in on-premise data centers.

  • (90%) Engineer will build, deploy or fine-tune Microsoft Azure services for internal customers around the globe. The main duties include understanding user requirements, designing technical components and deploying solutions in the Azure cloud space.

  • (10%) Using VMWare ESXi: Engineer will build new Windows server and Windows 10 systems in some corporate on-premise data centers. Secondly, engineer will help migrate selected Azure-based Windows Server platforms to VMWare ESXi. 

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement a variety of Azure-based solutions using cloud automation frameworks (Terraform, Github)

  • Build Windows Servers and Windows 10 systems on VMWare ESXi (on-premise)

  • Understand functional requirements, implement solutions and ensure solutions conform to best practice design. Solutions must adhere to company security requirements.

  • Ability to prioritize work—balancing IT operations work with strategic engineering work

  • Strong communication and team-working skills.

  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule and handle critical/priority incidents when paged

  • Must be a self-starter, have a pro-active and cooperative attitude.

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Ability to work in a globally-distributed environment—with onshore and off-shore teams.

  • Operational support for GoAnywhere managed file transfer platform (MFT)

Qualification

  • Microsoft Azure. 90-95% of daily work will be in Azure.

  • Deployment of services using Terraform/Github

  • Microsoft Powershell

  • Deployment of virtual machines on top of VMWare ESXi. Approximately 5-10% of daily work will be in VMWare.

  • AWS experience is a plus. (Note: Main day-to-day operating environment is Azure)

  • GoAnywhere MFT experience is a plus.


Technical Skills:

  • Experience working in an IT operations group. At least 5+ years in IT operations/engineering with at least 5+ years’ experience in Azure

  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Azure and deployment of services using Terraform/Github. Components may include (but not limited to) Azure Windows Server VMs, resource groups, recovery services vault/Azure site recovery, storage accounts and key vaults. Ability to also support existing production Azure VM server environment. Azure Active Directory (AAD), DNS, SSL and SPN configuration also required.

  • Strong programming skills using Microsoft Powershell

  • VMWare ESXi knowledge and the ability to build Windows, Win10 VMs on top of VMWare (on-premises)

  • Share and participate in the team’s 24x7 on-call requirements. This includes supporting major incidents and customers in multiple time zones.

  • Requirements for this position include incident alignment that falls to US Eastern Standard Time. Engineer will be required to work a shift between 9am and 5pm EST Monday-Friday approximately and facilitate critical incidents as needed.

  • Strong communication, teamwork skills– As a member of a cross-domain team, ability to work alongside other technical engineers and communicate effectively on a variety of topics to senior-level management.

  • Strong attention to detail – Ability to take customer requirements, offer solutions and build solutions according to company standards.

  • Have a general understanding of Azure networking (e.g. VNETs, routing, peering, firewall rules)

  • Ability to use Jira to work through itemized backlog and sprint work; ServiceNow (tickets); Solarwinds Orion (troubleshooting)

  • Ability to use automation frameworks to deliver cloud-based resources

  • Ability to learn and manage GoAnywhere managed file transfer (MFT)

  • Ability to learn and manage AWS services
