The Opportunity:

 Our Neuromodulation business includes implantable devices compatible with mobile technology to help people who suffer from chronic pain and movement disorders. These non-opioid therapies allow us to provide interventional pain therapy to patients throughout the pain continuum. The Director of Field Clinical Research Operations is responsible for recruiting, retaining, deploying, and developing our global field clinical research (FCR) team. This role is global and requires ~50% travel to lead US and EU-based team members . This individual will be responsible for the implementing, measuring, refining, and improving the effectiveness of the FCR team and their work product. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership qualities and have the ability to communicate effectively across key stakeholders (to include Abbott senior management) to advance Abbott’s clinical operations, strategic initiatives and data development programs. This leader exhibits proficiency in developing and implementing strategic plans and operating models to achieve (or exceed) expected performance outcomes in Abbott.

What You’ll Work On

  • Provides operational and strategic support for Clinical Research vision and goals

  • Serves as coach, supervisor, resource, mentor, trainer and motivator to team members

  • Oversees work of Field Clinical Research Specialists including assessing data quality, alignment of incentives, goal setting and goal attainment, budget management and investigator relations

  • Assists with development of systems and procedures for effective project management and clinical operations

  • Participates in business development activities as required

  • Assists with quarterly departmental budgeting and periodic planning

  • Performs training within company

  • Works on routine assignments per written procedures, where ability to recognize deviation from accepted practice is required

  • Normally receives minimal instructions on routine work and detailed instructions on new assignments

  • Works closely the DVP, Global Clinical Affairs

  • Contributes to the overall operations and to the achievement of departmental goals

  • Perform job specific tasks in compliance with applicable Regulations, International Standards, and Standard Operating Procedures

  • Develop new and revises existing polices and defines Operational goals and objectives; guides staff members in establishing appropriate priorities; monthly, quarterly, and annually evaluates operational performance in relation to goals and objectives. All Operational areas should develop and execute a Continuous Quality, Key Metric, and Process Improvement plan

  • Consult with the leaders and staff of R&D, biostats, data science, safety, IT, finance, HR and other professional staff as needed

  • Work with HR regarding all leadership or colleague discipline and promotions; leave and overtime authorizations

  • Maintain the confidentiality of all patient information according to federal, state and local guidelines and regulations

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in health sciences, biostatistics, biological sciences or related field.

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in clinical research for a medical device or pharmaceutical company.

  • Demonstrated leadership/management skills with respect to achievement of company goals and objectives.

  • Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross division business unit model preferred

  • Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment

  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to set goals and provide positive and constructive feedback respectfully to build positive relationships and improve business results 

  • Ability to work effectively within a team in a fast-paced changing environment

  • Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization

  • Experience and understanding with class III medical device clinical research

  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently as required

  • May be required to work Holidays and weekends

  • Thorough understanding of FDA, BSI/TUV, TGA Guidelines and other applicable regulations

The base pay for this position is

$143,300.00 – $286,700.00

In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
