Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Scientist with oncology drug discovery and development experience to join the ImmunoBiology team as part of the Cancer Immunology Thematic Research Center (Redwood City, CA). The individual will help drive early drug discovery programs across both large and small molecules from target identification through target validation and lead optimization and, ultimately, toward clinical proof of concept in patients. The individual will work collaboratively with drug discovery, predictive science, translational and clinical teams to advance therapeutic candidates and build a deeper understanding of the role for modulating the immunobiology in the tumor microenvironment. The qualified candidate will bring extensive knowledge in oncology, drug development, and immunology to the team.

**Please note, this position will be located in Redwood City, CA initially, but will eventually be located in Brisbane, CA **

Position Responsibilities:

In the role as Scientist within the ImmunoBiology team, the ideal candidate will:

  • Design and execute robust preclinical data packages to support drug discovery programs

  • Contribute to exploratory target identification and validation of novel targets and biology

  • Provide biology discovery support for immunobiology facing clinical assets

  • Contribute to the project development and perform cellular immunological techniques including multi-color flow cytometry, ELISA, MSD, in vitro and ex vivo immune cell assays

  • Opportunities to formulate and guide strategies for targeting the tumor microenvironment

  • Apply scientific and / or technical skills and functional knowledge to conduct experiments / research / studies in assigned area

  • Adapt standard methods and techniques by applying breadth of knowledge and prior work experience

  • Contribute to initiatives related to continuous improvement or development of new approaches / technologies

  • Lead discussions and make presentations in multidisciplinary meetings, logically presenting information to convey clear, key messages

  • Represent department or function on program / project team or sub-team

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

    • 5+ years of academic and / or industry experience

Or

  • Master’s Degree

    • 3+ years of academic and / or industry experience

Or

  • Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in the Life Sciences

    • No experience necessary

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD with 0-2+ years of industry experience

  • Strong background in biologics and/or small molecule drug discovery, including the ability to design and execute a strategy to validate and optimize drug candidates.

  • Understanding of, and experience with human blood, mouse tissue and immune and tumor functional assay development is required

  • Experience with multi-color flow cytometry for immune cell profiling is required

  • Knowledge of bioinformatics and/or computational biology is a plus

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic and innovative research environment

  • Effectively communicate methods, results, and recommendations in multiple settings – including team and project meetings and seminars

  • Maintain accurate and well-organized laboratory records and notebooks

The starting compensation for this job is a range from $98,000 - $135,300 plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility).

The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and where the job is performed.

Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.
