What is the opportunity?

The Insurance Accountant’s key responsibilities are to process and record monthly Financial transactions. Prepare and review account reconciliations, process cash settlements and back-office investment transactions. Prepare monthly and quarterly reports as necessary. The role requires analysis and resolution of discrepancies of unusual items. This is a multi-disciplinary financial position that has leadership and accountability for financial reporting, controls, compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) financial oversight, interaction with internal audit, external audit and regulators.

What will you do?

• Minimize operational risk through adherence to policies and procures, attention to detail and critical review of own work
• Reconcile account balances including analysis and resolution of discrepancies and unusual items.
• Prepare, review and distribute various monthly and quarterly reports
• Operate and maintain processes and controls
• Assist with internal and external audit requests
• Work as a team member on accounting and finance projects as applicable
• Escalation and communication of issues to Senior Manager, Finance or Chief Financial officer as appropriate

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

• University degree in business/finance or equivalent
• Recognized accounting designation (or enrolment in related program) preferred
• Approximately 5 years work experience in financial accounting
• Approximately 5 years reinsurance industry and accounting experience(would be an asset but not necessary)
• Significant experience and comfort level working independently and with limited supervision.
• Working knowledge of IFRS relating to the reinsurance business including IFRS17
