What You Will Do:

  • Responsible for performance and oversight of month end activities, budgeting, forecasting, and all variance analysis for an assigned Business Unit department including management of Operation and Maintenance costs, overhead capitalization and synergies to meet established expectations and targets;

  • Responsible for monthly reporting to Managers, Directors and Senior Leadership on financial information relating to Budgets, Forecasts, and Actuals with recommended mitigation strategies to attain financial targets;

  • Assist the Manager and Supervisors in providing active financial support and counsel to the business;

  • Finance Lead for a particular VP/group of Directors and provide financial support, analysis and interpretation of financial and operational performance on a timely basis to various operating groups, as required to support their business and strategic decisions;

  • Provide and recommend, where vital, a streamlined and common approach to analytics carried out within the operating groups and the dependencies that impact financial outcomes throughout Gas Distribution (GD) in a timely manner;

  • Build relationships with the operating groups, particularly with individuals responsible for compilation and assessment of financial data, including forecasts, with a view to understanding and validating the processes used by them in generating their outputs;

  • Build knowledge and understanding of that area of the business by attending department meetings and building relationships with clients;

  • Responsible for assisting with inputs to support periodic forecasts, the annual budget cycle and long range plans;

  • Responsible for the oversight of more junior analyst’s activities as they related to the responsible department, including review of journal entries and analysis

  • Provide ad hoc/off-cycle data, reporting, and analysis as requested, ensuring accurate, relevant information is provided for management decision making;

  • Ensure financial reporting/tracking is consistent with Regulatory framework;

  • Support key SOX controls and Audit requirements;

  • Continually support the team in the identification, assessment, mitigating, remediating, and management of risk exposures;

  • Assist in the communication and awareness of Company policies and changes to other departments at GD;

  • Provide support and in some cases lead initiatives to drive process and system improvements within GDS Finance;

  • Assist with other responsibilities as needed for the role.
     

Who You Are:

Required:

  • Related University degree and/or professional designation

  • Finance related designation (CMA, CA, CPA, CGA, MBA or equivalent) preferred

  • 4+ years of post-qualification experience with business performance analytics related roles

  • Highly analytical with superior financial modelling skills and the ability to communicate findings and recommendations to internal groups and budget owners in a significant manner with business context

  • Solid understanding of SAP and/or Oracle preferred

  • Good business insight and understanding of regulatory environment and financial management strategies and reporting requirements

  • Proven teammate, with the ability to build and maintain collaborative working relationships;

  • Strong proven competencies in interpersonal skills, oral and written communications, persuasion and influencing skills

  • Ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines

  • Experience with prioritizing work and implementing processes and ongoing operational improvements to streamline and optimize work

  • Experience working within a Regulatory environment preferred

Physical Requirements include but are not limited to:

Grasping, kneeling, light – moderate lifting (objects up to 20 pounds), reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion, typing, sitting, standing, visual requirement (able to see screens, detect color coding, read fine print), hearing requirement and the ability to sit at a computer for long periods of time.
