The Application Rationalization Team within Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking an experienced Cloud Migration Lead to drive our application modernization efforts. This role will lead a team to assess, plan, and execute migrations of BDS applications to cloud platforms. This role will lead a cross-functional team that both directly migrates selected applications to the cloud and partners with product teams to help them migrate their own applications. You will be the technical and strategic lead, partnering with architects, engineering teams, product owners, and stakeholders to define migration strategies, prioritize application portfolios, and ensure successful adoption of cloud-native patterns. As the Cloud Migration Lead, you will shape the roadmap for modernization and champion best practices in cloud architecture. This is an opportunity to make a measurable impact on the scalability, resiliency, and cost profile of critical BDS applications while helping the organization embrace modern engineering practices.

We are looking for a leader with hands-on cloud migration experience (public cloud such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud), a strong background in application assessment and refactoring strategies (rehost, replatform, refactor, replace), and the ability to manage complex stakeholder landscapes.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead a cross-functional cloud migration team that both directly migrates selected applications and partners with product teams to enable their own migrations
  • Develop and drive the application modernization roadmap using application rationalization principles and migration frameworks
  • Plan and execute hands-on migrations to public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
  • Mentor and coach engineers and product teams on migration patterns, tooling, and operational practices
  • Provide guidance, reusable tooling, and runbooks to accelerate safe, repeatable migrations
  • Coordinate and remove impediments across architects, operations, security, procurement, and other stakeholders to meet schedule and quality goals
  • Assess application portfolios and recommend migration strategies (rehost, replatform, refactor, replace) based on risk, cost, and business value
  • Track migration progress, report status to leadership, and ensure measurable outcomes for scalability, resiliency, and cost optimization

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • 8+ years’ experience in software engineering/systems engineering experience
  • 3+ years’ leading cloud migration or cloud-native transformation programs
  • Experience migrating enterprise applications at scale to one or more public cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Architecture experience: networking (VPC/VNet), identity and access management (IAM, SSO), storage, compute, databases, and hybrid connectivity
  • Experience with IaC tools such as Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or Azure Resource Manager templates
  • Experience with containers and orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes (EKS/AKS/GKE) and associated tooling
  • Experience in CI/CD pipelines and automation (Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or similar)
  • Experience leading cross-functional technical teams and manage multiple stakeholders
  • Experience in cloud security and compliance (CIS Benchmarks, NIST, FedRAMP, DoD SRG as applicable)

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 10+ years’ experience and prior experience in aerospace, defense, or highly regulated industries
  • Experience with legacy modernization: .NET/.NET Core, Java, mainframe modernization strategies
  • Experience with application performance monitoring and observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, New Relic)
  • Experience of cost optimization practices and tools (AWS Cost Explorer, Azure Cost Management)
  • Experience with service meshes (Istio/Linkerd) and advanced cloud networking
  • Experience with prior program management or release management
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
