Caterpillar is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer Manager in Athens, GA. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the Final Assembly operation for Mini Hydraulic Excavators by providing tooling, processes, equipment, etc. through coordination of a technical staff assigned to provide for the needs of the shop operation.

What you can look forward to in this role:

  • Provide Technical Expertise and Support for the Manufacturing Engineering Team
  • Lead the Planning and Manufacturing Engineering team to achieve safety goals, capacity requirements, product cost and quality commitments.
  • Lead the Planning and Manufacturing Engineering team for line balancing activities, line side inventory strategy and implementation, development of part kitting strategies and other lean activities to optimize the assembly process.
  • Manage Capital projects to achieve goals related to RFI approval, spend targets, and expense budgets for smaller projects.
  • Ensure that the 5-year capital plan positions the Assembly teams to achieve long-term PQVC (People, Quality, Velocity and Cost) 
  • Coordinates the installation of new machines and equipment and process changes to provide the most efficient and economical Assembly Line Process.
  • Ensures optimum utilization of equipment and space by coordinating the layout of areas such as storage areas, test equipment, etc. to accommodate the changing production requirements.
  • Establishes standards and works with shop personnel to resolve problems related to the Assembly process,  and equipment, etc.
  • Supervise a work unit of management and salaried employees where planning, scheduling, monitoring, and reviewing work of subordinates is required.
  • Serve as a liaison between Product Design engineering and manufacturing teams.

A successful candidate in this role will showcase their skills in:

  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
  • Capacity Planning & Management - MFG: Knowledge of tools, approaches and practices for determining production demand and ability to manage resources needed to provide satisfactory levels of service.
  • Lean Manufacturing: Knowledge of the philosophy, principles and implementation approaches of lean manufacturing; ability to integrate and implement lean manufacturing philosophy into existing production and management processes.
  • Manufacturing Standards, Procedures and Policies: Knowledge of organizational standards, procedures and policies in manufacturing activities; ability to plan, guide, and monitor manufacturing processes for compliance.

Top Candidates for this position may also have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline
  • 3 years of experience in Final Product Assembly lines.
  • 5 years of experience in a supervisory role.
  • 5 years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Project management experience
