How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?

The field Safety Sales Manager role will effectively manage a team of outside sales Safety Specialists to drive large customer site sales growth, customer retention and new customer attainment. This critical role manages Associate sales development and productivity, as well as standard aspects of employment. Sales Managers must always act with integrity, while supporting the success of their direct reports.


Each direct report (Safety Specialist) is assigned a geographic territory working as a sales representative and consultant in pursuit of maintaining and growing sales of safety and related products, explicitly materials denied by the Safety Item Product Hierarchies and some additional material & service part numbers defined under separate cover.

  • Enforce and uphold all Company policies and procedures, including acting and managing safe practices in all instances.  Associate safety is paramount to all other duties.  

  • Motivate and coach sales representatives to generate sales through effective sales path control and negotiation skills.

  • Meet weekly with individual sales representatives to coach technique, review assigned territory, and navigation of complex components necessary to meet customer expectations.  Meet monthly to update each Associate on YTD productivity vs. Goals/Quota.  Associates should always know where their Sales & Margin is YTD and MTD vs. goals.  

  • Provide representatives with assistance in customer problem-solving including, but not limited to, resource utility, departmental issues, credit, fulfillment, pricing, etc.  

  • Build financial sales budgets based on assigned customer’s historical sales, recent quarter trends and growth expectations.  Follow all guidelines in keeping with consistent standardized budgeting. 

  • Use or build reporting that provides daily status updates to associates regarding their assigned territory, as well as the customers in their assigned geography.  

  • Set goals and objectives monthly, reviewing results 

  • Ensure associates variable compensation is accurate and processed on time. 

  • Manage and document any and all personnel issues for direct reports, engaging HR when needed.   

  • Ensure associates grasp training material, provide additional support when need is identified.  

  • Conduct regular team meetings to review current market trends, and any relevant information available from national resources. .  

  • Shepherd continued adoption and development of use of the Salesforce.com tool to guide the sales process through phases of development to close.  

  • Work to develop tools to enable the team to be more agile in the pursuit of business expansion, including relevant persona development within Salesforce.  

  • When applicable, communicate and coordinate sales activities with appropriate regional personnel including Account Managers, other Specialists and Regional Leadership.  

  • Participate in marketing efforts.

  • Support Vendor relationships through active engagement with the local Vendor Representatives.  

  • Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Are you a MATCH?

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required

  • College degree preferred

  • 5+ years supervisory experience preferred along with prior sales experience

  • Salesforce.com experience highly preferred

  • Ability to interact strategically with all levels of management

  • Able to work well as a member of a local & national team

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and under pressure to meet deadlines

  • Travel required up to 60%

  • Self-starting personality with prior sales or customer-facing experience, particularly in a commercial business to business environment.  

  • Excellent sales and negotiation skills

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and stressful environment
