Citi established its Citi Data Management Policy and Standard (CDMP) to govern and manage data in compliance with regulatory expectations.  It sets forth the minimum requirements for the implementation of a consistent and controlled approach to create and use data as a critical corporate asset. The Policy also establishes a Governance Model for Data Management, Governance and Quality across Citi.  All Citi employees, contractors, and personnel with responsibility for the ownership, production, and consumption of data must manage data in accordance with the CDMP.

This position is in the US Consumer Bank, supporting its data governance related functions as outlined in the CDMP and managed by the US Consumer Analytics (USCA) team. 

Summary

Your goal is to maximize the trustworthiness and usage of data across the business(s) by identifying trusted sources, describing, explaining and making it easier to share, integrate, retrieve, consume, manage, and utilize data and perform and maintain data lineage.

This role is responsible for managing a team of resources who will perform meta data and data lineage activities using standard tools and templates and supporting as-needed data related areas of data quality, issue management and remediation efforts.

You will partner with Data Stewards, Business Process Owners, Data Quality, Data Providers and Data Custodians and other key data-related roles including Technology.

Main responsibilities

Functional

  • Manage the execution of meta data activities and data lineage activities such as trusted sources, data definitions, data rules / business logic, data categorization (Personally Identifiable Information (PII), etc.), data quality rules, processes and systems that use or create the data, etc.
  • Managing includes project planning, prioritizing requirements and activities, seeking diverse points of view for optimal solutions, understanding, resolving or escalating issues and concerns and influencing team members to deliver on time and within budget.
  • Capture metadata for Critical Data Elements (CDE) within the business process and ensure that it is stored in accordance to the Chief Data Office (CDO)’s Metadata Management Process.
  • Map Critical Data Elements (CDE) to appropriate processes, Data Domains, Data Concepts, and Data Sources and maintain accurate business process maps in line with Citi’s taxonomy.
  • In partnership with the business, define and capture meta data so that it can be easily and effectively used by Data Scientists, Reporting Teams and project teams working on digitization and automation of risks and controls.
  • Ensure robust documentation of meta data and data lineage for CDEs.
  • Collaborate with the Data Governance Office, CDO, Consumer Business Operations and Risk Controls (CBORC) and Technology to identify, recommend and/or implement processes and technologies that enhance or support processes related to meta data management and data lineage.
  • Communicate data decisions and ensure business users understand impacts of such decisions to their lines of business.
  • Continuously identifies or supports opportunities to streamline and simplify the execution of the Citi Data Management Policy.
  • Serve as a trusted partner, collaborate and communicate frequently with Process Owners, Business Architects, Data Providers, Data Custodians, CDO and Data Governance Office (DGO).
  • Subject Matter Expert on Citi Data Management Policy (CDMP) and Meta Data Management and knowledgeable with Data Quality, Issue Management & Resolution (IMR), End User Computing (EUC), and other data-related Citi policies and standards.

Management

  • Manage a team of data management professional to ensure adherence to CDMP and Citi’s data standards.
  • Be a thought leader for Data Management. Share best practices.  Identify ways to simplify and enhance ways to adhere to CDMP.
  • Be a trusted advisor and partner to the supporting functions and stakeholders.
  • Present status updates, issues / challenges / risks and solutions to senior management, stakeholders and partners in a succinct manner to drive decision-making and actions.
  • Lead meetings to solve issues / challenges / risks by factoring input from partners and diverse points of view.
  • Promote ‘data as an asset’ and drive culture change to make the organization ‘data savvy’ via lunch-n-learn sessions and equivalent forums in partnership with Process Owners, Data Custodians, Data Providers, CDO, etc.

Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Business, Finance, Engineering or Information Systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Master’s degree is preferred, but not required.
  • At least 10+ years of combined experience in banking and financial services industry and data governance. 
    • Experience includes active role / participation in one or more data related initiatives such as meta data management, data lineage capture, data trace, data quality (DQ), aligning business processes with data, metrics and reporting, data-related issue management and remediation efforts, process ~ data mapping, developing or supporting standards / policies.
  • Experience with data management processes and tools and applications, including process mapping and lineage toolsets (e.g. Collibra).
  • Working knowledge of structured/unstructured databases, data modeling, SQL and Agile methodology.

  • Led initiatives within a line of business and across the enterprise
  • Demonstrated relationship management and advisory skills with sponsors, key stakeholders, partners and team members.
  • Good presentation skills, business and technical writing, and verbal communication skills to support decision-making and actions.
  • Problem-solving and critical thinking skills to recognize and comprehend complex data governance issues, policies, regulatory requirements and industry information affecting the business environment.
  • Willingness to pitch-in with other team members. Entrepreneurial spirit to identify problems or challenges and solve them.

  • Experience managing teams across diverse locations
  • Actively managed various aspects of data-related initiatives including planning.
  • Led efforts to solve issues / challenges / risks with input for solutions from cross-functional team members and diverse viewpoints.
  • Coached or mentored direct team members and indirect team members.
  • Regularly provided timely status updates to management and stakeholders.
